The sales, however, were light. Reading, Har? lem, and Brie were among the most active Stocks. Harlem and Farmers' were heavy at a consider? able decline. At the ?cond Board there was a sale of 1,000 Harlem at C-J, 6 mos. Governments were quiet and firm. The decline of the day, as compared with yesterday, has been on Farmers' Loan, i\; Harlem,;; Brie,}; Long Island, { ; Canton, If ; Morris, J; Erie Income Bonds, $; Norwich, {; Reading and Portsmouth closed at yesterday's prices. For .Madison and Indianapo? lis 102 was bid. The second week in November shows a continuance of tho large business doing on this road. The traffic is as follows: ISMi.$6,900 11-49.. 5,350 Increase, 30 y ct.$1,685 In Exchanges the market is lower, and tho de? mand is very moderate. The leading drawers have put the price down \ 4F rt. Lending names ?f Sterling have been sold at 10 5-10^ i? >'t, and fair bills at !'J iv(Jl. Francs r.re heavy. In Freights the movement is small nnd the rates are heavy. The Money market is witlwut change in rntes nod the supply continues large, with a better de. mand. First-class short paper goes at 5?6 t* ct, and long at TS)8. A transfer of a million of dollars has been made from the Sub-Treasury in this City to tho Sub Treasury nt New-Orleans. It will probably go by the Philadelphia to-morrow. Tho Receipts tit the ;~-.ib Treasury to-day wore ?G8,06G ; Payments, $84,790 : Balance, $4,230,787. The dishursments were made for paying off the frigate St. Lawrence. Tho Purser of that ship was obliged to pay 3 43> ct premium for sufficient silver change for his purposes. A large sale of Erie First Mortgage Bonds was made at auction to-day and realized nn advance on the Stock Hoard prices. The sales reached tllt.000, varying from lOCj to IOC-, closing at 10CJ. The Bonds carry only 14 days interest. The sale was for account of an Ohio Railroad Co. which came into possession of them in the course of n negotiation for iron in England. There were also sold at auction about $10,000 of New-York Five Per Cent Stocks at the following rates : Pay? able in 1850, lOOj1 ; 1855, 105J ; 1858, lOOf? 107 i I860, 1081. The bids for the Michigan Southern Railroad Mortgage Bonds will be opened to-morrow Fri? day) at 3 o'clock, P M., at the office of Winslow, Lanier A Co., 52 Wall st, when tho sumo will be awarded to the successful bidders. How |ong will it be before we may step into the cars on the banks of tho Hudson, and trave' by continuous railroad to Galena on the Missis ?ippi? The Erie Railroad will be open to Dun? kirk within the coming year, which will land us <m the shore of Lake Erie. From Dunkirk to Toledo, at the head of Lake Erie, companies are either organized or in process of organization for the whole route, aliottt 250 miles, nnd we are in? formed there is good ground to expect the com? pletion in two years from this time. From Toledo to Chicngo, n distance of 250 miles, two com? panies are in operation, one the Michigan South? ern, the other the Northern Indiana. The former company have now 75 miles of road in operation, and in a short time will extend to llj miles. From this point to Chicago the line is said to be of a remarkably favorable character. According to a report of Mr. Engineer Jervis, which we have seen in manuscript, the balance ol this line, about 140 miles to Chicago, will not cost for land, grad? ing and bridging, ready for the rails, over ?.1,000 per mile, and this ho considers an ample estimate. He estimates the total capital for road (ail iron rail) with liberal outfit of stations, cars and engines for the '"><> miles of main line, and some 10 miles of branch road at $4,800,000, and that the whole line may be put in complete operation by theilose of next season. Mr. Jervis savs this "May be regarded as taxing the credulity of men whohaveonly known such works in the Eastern jKirtions of the country. The nature of the coun? try is such that very little of the usual contingeu. ties that attends the estimates of similar works is involved in this line, and though it appears low, 1 nm fully sntistied that it is not only sufficient) but will be found an cnnpie estimate of the cost." This is certainly an extraordinary line, and the .early promise of its opening is highly gratifying But we must take a boat on Lake Erie, from Dun? kirk to Toledo, one year after tIiis road is openod before the L.ako Shore road is completed. From Chicago a road has progressed 40 miles towards <-}aieJia, and will probably reach Galena in about two years. VV e may, therefore, answer our ques? tion by saying, that in about two years from this time we may travel West from New York, by continuous Railroad, 1,200 miles, to Ga iena. Chicago is destined to be a great city, and roads will diverge north to Milwaukee, and south-westerly to the Mississippi, concentrating a vast passenger business, which will move east by the Michigan, Southern and Northern Indiana Jino ; and with the large local business in freight and passengers, must make this portion of the tjreat Western line, from New-York, a veryproftt able investment of capital. Every opening to the vast am! rapidly growing West should be encour? aged by New-York, so far at least as we may ob taiu a good voucher for it. as a good investment of capital, which this appears to have. It has also appropriated S100,000 for the completion of the Frankfort Railroad. At Hosten the flanks discount liberally, and the tendency is stiil favorable to improvement. Busi? ness notes are scarce at the nominal quotations of 7, 8 and 9 f ct. Loans on call, with good collat? erals, are made at from C to 6. Charters for Five Millions of Rank Capital will be asked for at the next meeting of the Pennsyl? vania Legislature. At Philadelphia the Money market is amply supplied at 37 4? ct. Thomas Swnnn, Esq. has been reflected Presi? dent of this Company. The amount of Subscriptions to the Ohio and Mississippi Railroad, to be applied to the con? struction of the Road from Cincinnatti to a point intersecting the Jcifersonville and Columbus Rail? way is $1,250,000, from the following sources: (lily of (.'iiicinnaii.$600,000 Individuals. 400,000 Subscriptions made and expected on the election, of h Board of Directors by Stockholders In I'ear bom County.'. hm.oph Rlploy County. 75,000 Jennings County. 75,000 Tola!..?l?t?.oao This sum will be more than suflicient to obtain the right of way. grade the road and build bridges to the point of intersection above mentioned. The London Circular to Bankers contains some interesting statistics in regard to the Agricultural Products of the country. It estimates the amount , of land annually appropriated to the production of ; w heat nt 6,000,000 of acres. If we allow 07 bush? els to the acre as an average crop, the annual pro 1 duction will be 20,250,000 qrs. Jt is, however, es ! timated that the crop lor Is?O will not exceed 17,000,0(10 qrs, and the question now arises where the deficiency is to come from. It is well known that in Germany anil Russia the crops are more nearly exhausted than usual ; Russin has never been able to replenish her military stores of Corn, so anprecedentedly broken into in 1847, and the Rye and Potato crops in Germany are decidedly bad. In Prussia, Belgium and Holland, the crops are very inferior to those of 1849. It: is anticipa? ted that large supplies will be sent from s-puiu to the Mediterranean, but nothing equal to the fall? ing off in Germany, Belgium, Ac. In France, more land than usual has been devoted to the raising of wheat, the high prices which prevailed in 1847 having greatly stimulated the agricultural industry of the country. France was formerly an importer of Wheat, but no w she is an exporter, nnd it is estimated that she will be able to furnish Hi.gland this year from .".00,000 to 700,000 quarters of Wheat and Flour. Thus far it will be seen that Europe will not be able to furnish the deficiency in England, and it is evident that considerable supplies must be drawn from Canada and the United States. At the rates now current at Liverpool, no larger sup plies can be expected from this country. The Flour and Grain now going forward is quite small and the most of it sent out on ship's account. The : stores of foreign Grain now available for the Eng lish market lire much less in the aggregate than ; they were at the same date in It 19, hut so long as the market there continues in its present de : pressed stnte, and so long as the British farmers and holders of foreign Wheat continue to force 1 their gram upon the market at present low rates, , no very heavy shipments will be made from this country. illnrUcts?Carci'ullv Rliorted for The Tribune. ??hvs i,.fi?,. g ii 1 TnURSOAY, Nov. 14.
