port, we have received the following:

eastward, (in looking with a glass found them to be

(luv spec Isal reporters returned from tbe scene of the
accident last evening, with tbe following particulars:
The President of the Erie road beard of the disaster
about 10 o clock yesterday morning, on bis arrival at
tbe office lalthough the telegraph operator ot the
company received the particulars on the proviou*
t .gl.: and at < t ?? dispatched a locomotive and cars,
with the Vioe-Preri lent, Mr. Ilaadley, on board, bar?
ing previously telegraphed to all trains to give way for
them. Tte woodwork about one of the axles took fire,
whereupon tbe special train was necessarily abandoned
at Patersor, ard the Vice-President proceeded on the
way train from that etatit n, arriving at the scene of the
accidett about 1 p. m. Some N men were found there
er gaged in clearirg away the wreck.
According to our best information the train consisted
of two baggage atd five passenger cars, all of which
were full. The accident occurred on tiis down grade
from the summit, cpon a perfectly straight track in
Shin Hollow, about five miles from Port Jerri*. A
piece of rail about two feet long here broke out of the
trark three passenger cars, however, passed over
safely, although their inmatss feit a jolting. bd\ the
wheel of the fourth car sank down, and tLe cars ran
off the track. Tka fifth car followed the same course,
lloth dragged alotg by tie eile of the track about 33
reds, tbe last one slewing around almost across the
track and overturning; the couplings were wrenched
asunder and the two cars rolled down the emb uk
ment. The second of them roded orer once and a half,
resting cn the roof, and wae broken into small frag?

up against a pile of stones, crushing in the side ani
tearing some of the seats away. The people from a

House and the Delaware IK u-e. Thirty-six persons
