Friday, April 20-p. m. In the absence of important news to-day, tho stock market was exposed in the early dealings to free selling by holders of stocks who have lit? tle faith in the present advance, and afterward to dulncss, which is almost invariably a depressing influence. It remains only to record the fact that the early realizations and the following dulness were alike ineffectual in checking the upward movement. The indecision that characterized the European markets yesterday seemed to bc re? lieved because, in Paris, the theatrical imrado of General Boulanger was not attended by dist urb? aner of the pence, and in Berlin the approaching dissolution of thc German Emperor was not re? garded ns the signal for a general Eurobin war. It is hardly worth while to sell itoekl in this Markx. on political complications in Europe, whe_ the Lcmdon and Continental markets exhibit com? plete indifference to what ought apparently to be controlling events. The British funds are still the pulse of Europe, and their movement lins not been quickened by the latest developments. The closing was marked by fresh animation, and the linal prices wero only a little under the highest points. The advances were generally frac? tional, and the few exceptional declines served simply to prove thc general rule. That New-York and New-England should yield a small fraction after the rapid advance yesterday is hardly a symptom of universal collapse, and even a larger decline in Missouri Kansas and Texas may be ex? plained by natural causes. As a rule, however, thc so-called Gould shares were conspicuously strong, and Western Union closed 1-'.', 'levis ami I'ru-ilic. 7-8 and Missouri Paoiflfl 1 1-8 |w-r cent higher. Pacific Mail, which may be properly designated a junior Gould stock, rose 1 per cent. Bal iiside from special nun merits or temporary influences, the market displayed fresh tendencies to broaden. The trading ia many stories that have ix-en quiet, or perhaps neglected, for ? long time has become more spirited, and .several low priced Itoekl prove by their movements that pub? lic interest has at Inst been stirred. The MSUr nnce of easy money held ont by the new policy of the Treasury, the lon-{-continued absorption of sound securities by home and foreign investors, and the settlement of rate disturbances and labor troubles have combined to impart new courage ia til branches of speculation. SI ATE OF THE BOND MARKET. Although there was only a moderate business in Government bonds, the market was strom.- ami the transactions were at. full prices. Holders evince a disposition to await thc action of thc Treasury next week in regard to purchases. Tl.e closing quotations wero as follows: Bul As*. 1 bT-C a__ET K _.___*>___. (??*1*741<'7VP.S. car.
