There was a commotion in West Sixty-sixtn-sL yesterday morning, when a crazy Italian laborer .tried to kill several persons and was shot dead Ly a, policeman. He was employed in digging an ex? cavation for the East River lias Company's pipes under the elevated railroad station at Slxty-slxth-st. and Columbus-ave. John F. Swift, the foreman of 'the gang, discharged the Italian on Wednesday afternoon. Yeaterday morning the Italian went back and demanded more money from Swift. He followed the foreman about for neveral minutes, muttering and complaining. frThen he drew a large revolver, with seven loaded chambers, from his pocket and began to shoot at Swift. He fired twice without hitting the foreman, who dodged behind a column of the - _*evatcd railroad and yelled for help.
