Chicago, Jan. 4 (Special).— men at New- Tork «re wlrins their houses here that the recent bl* buying of wheat on New-York orders Is for Keene. Prices have ndvanced l%c to-day, and dosed l^e <» vßr Thursday. There has not appeared to be a big; trade, certainly not as large as yes terday's or Wednesday's; but the market has been an exceedingly nervous one, and has advanced sickly on any buying. May opened at 76% c sold between 7€* c and 77% c. and closed at 77% c. In creased speculation has been the significant cir cumstance. The news features have been about evenly divided. New- York continues to lead In the buying. A leading commission man now at New- Tork wires his house that the buying of wheat wlrhln the last week by Counselman-Day has cer tainly been for the) account of James R. Keene. This message, coming from an Influential source, has confirmed coma other signs, and the Chicago trade Is pretty well convinced Keene is in the wheat market again to recoup the losses made by him at Chicago twenty years ago. Th© market was influenced early by small Argentina ship ments—«O.«lO bushels. Liverpool and Paris were oft a fraction. The price at one time was advanced sharply by a Minneapolis message declaring the Idle mills would resume on Monday. There were large receipts at Kansas City. 103.000 bushels, and the primary receipts were 100,000 bushels over last year; 603,000 bushels, against 604.000 bushels. Some shipping business was done. MO.OOO bushels. Sea board clearances were 425.000 bushel*. "The Modern Miller" declares there is some apprehension over the severe temperatures, because of the unpro tected fields. It was 40 below In the Northwest. There was further buying to-day by Counselman- Day. the concern which took each a line of wheat en Wednesday, and which Is now supposed to be acting on Keene's order. Corn prices closed 3^®'4c over Thursday's.: Jan uary. BS%e. and May. tWffltfi- The latter *£&•* »c and at «%c sellers. Increase In the general speculative Interest Is the motive, as In wheat. The Interest on the first mortgage bonds of the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway Company, which, by agreement of October 12th, 1885. between a Committee of the Bondholders and the Union Pacific. Denver sad Gulf Railway Company and its Receiver, was reduced for a time to four per cent., will, after December 1. 1800. accrue and be payable at the original rate of six per cent. The control of the Company through stock ownership is in the Colorado and Southern Railway Company, and It appears from published reports that the present earn ings of the property are not sufficient to pay the full interest on the bonds. Under these circumstances It becomes essential that the bondholders unite In securing all the consideration to which they are eotitled. and. If need be, enforcing their rights under the mortgages aad otherwise protecting their interests. Th* undersigned have been requested by the principal bondholders to act aa a bondholders' committee, and In order to confer upon the committee necessary authority, the bondholders are respectfully urged to deposit their bonds at once with the United States Trust Company under a bondholders' agreement lodged with It. Engraved certificates of deposit will be Issued by the Trust Company, and application will be made to the New Tork Stock Exchange to list the same.
