LJSHIGH COAL AND NAVIGATION.— In tIM

high Navigation stock sold at par in Friday's
market for the flr*t time In Its history, while yes
terday It made further prngress toward a higher
level. The majority of the stock Is held by con
servative Philadelphia Investors, and tt Is under
stood that they have been offered par and above
for their holdings, but it is quite likely that the
people who are seeking control will be forced to
pay a much higher price for the issue. The com
pany owns various properties which are now
lea.'cd to the Central Railroad of New-Jersey, and
It is therefore easy to so.- why the latter com.
pany would be petse-1 to secure absolute control
of tt-.e i.ehlgh Navigation. According to Phila
delphia reports, as high aa 135 will be paid f..r
the shares of tho company, tri order to secure a
controlllnß Interest In the property.
CANADIAN PACIFIC.-Eugene GuteJma of the
Canadian Paclrtc Railway, on completion ol a trip
of inspection ov»-r the comoanya Unea from the u
lantlc to the. Pacific, says:
win" '"^ovoments m:.d ( on the Canadian Pacific
Kalroad lines all the way from St. John. N 8..
to the Paeitio, have placed it. aa far as smoothness
of mad and safety of travel la concerned In ad
vance of any other transcontinental line. The most
striking Improvement is that, with the except '.f
only a small section, the entire road has be. re
laid with SO-pound rails, and haa been carefully
ballasted. In going over the road it la surprising
to see the largo number of curvature* on t>.*

and notice the way the grades have br-en cut down
\\ hen the Mne was built a 1 per cent gr_.ie was r*
garded as the maximum one. while now a thre*
tentria 1 per cent grade is about the highest that
Is allowed. What such a reduction meana may bij
best appreciated when It is observed that it almost
doubles the hauling capacity of a locomotive.
THE COTTON MOVEMENT.- According to The
Financial Chronicle" the total receipts of cotton
for the week ending November 25 reached 369.366
bales, against 384. last week and 375.767 the pre
vious week, making the total receipts since Sep
tember. l? 04, 4.:'10.27S bales, against 1.834J71 for the
same period of 1903. showing an increase since Sep
tember 1. 1904. of 555.W7 bales. Reports from the
South Indicate that rain has fallen in moat sections
during the week, but that on the whole th* pre
cipitation has been light or moderate. Picking
continues to make satisfactory progress, and Is ap
proachins completion in a number or sections.
Marketing of cotton ha 9 been on a liberal scale.
COPPER TRADE BOOMING.— A representative
of one of the largest copper selling agencies says:
I never knew conditions in th-< CO] per trade le

time. We cannot sell another pound of coppei for
delivery before January l. and the l'-.-:;>"! M.-ta's
Selling Company is in the same position. We ar«»
not desirous of having copper X" above its pres

all quarters of the world I don't see how higher
metal prices can be prevented. Both Russia and

THE ARIZONA CONSOLIDATED MINING

Company ' owns four highly developed mines In
Santa Cruz and I'lma counties, Arizona. three of
which are low grade sold mines and one a leu<-

compuny were consolidated last August, nr.d they

which .s a largo saving in expense and an incroi«.-
