In :h*» early dealings in yesterday's stork mar ket transactions w«»re moderately active, while the movement of values tended in the direction of higher quotation*. Commission house busl necs generally •was light, while the operations of the professional element amounted to sub t-ntntial figures, especially in Amalgamated Copperi St. Paul, Erie. Illinois Central, Man hattan, Metropolitan. Reading, Southern Pa «Jfi<\ Union Pacific, and the United States Bt«*el Fhan>«. In th»se issues advances ran fi<-m fractions to 1 per cent and above, Tl" larcest gains being recorded by 1111 itoli Central, which enjoyed a maximum euSvanca of over 3 points; St. Paul, Baltimore md Ohio, Union Pacific and the Steel securi il"s=. Follow inp the improvement in the first itvo hours of trading, prices reacted under the ri.fiuence of realizing sales and bear pressure, jind at the close the greater number of stocks -.vere well under the best figures of the day, with ji<t sees in a few of the active securities, nota- V.ly American 9 g;ir Refining. Consolidated Gas and Metropolitan. Selling In the last named Mock was based on the expected falling off In •• !;•• company's receipts, owing to the growing popularity of the underground system and to ill* proposed new operations of the Interborough << rjpany in Th- Bronx, in a district where the C-'etropolitan company has been supposed to have had control of the local passenger trans j ortation business While the Metropolitan se curities ere weak. Manhattan stock was de rfdedly strong; also Imerborough stock, the last r.Hnjed s«?ue advancing over 10 points on the curb. Call money rates ruled at en easy level, but Sterling exchange was strong, and further en- BMBeaansta of gold for export were made, total ■withdrawals of gold coin bars amounting to rr.or* than ?2.<»J.OM. According to the opin ion of the best informed men In th© Street, the outward movement of gold will continue in the r*rt of the current months, as it is believed that foreign requirements and the low price of money fit this centre will jnake shipments of the pre cious metal profitable. The fact that gold Is going abroad does not cause uneasiness in Wall Street circles, as it Is known that the movement is wholly due to legitimate international mone tary conditions. This is the cheapest money market in the world at present, and just as long as rates for call funds remain at their j-ref^-nt low l»vi>: gold will move to centres ■where it can be more profitably employed. A violent rfce In the wheat market had no lrfluence on stocks, although the advancing Tendency of the cereal was considered a factor in the outward movement of gold. Wheat ex ports from the United States have been ex tremely small in the last twelve months, and es a consequence the balance of trade, especially recently, has been running against this coun try, to far as exports of agricultural products ere concerned. Fortunately, exports of manu f«<-tun?s have been heavy, v 'hlle all indications point toward another year of large shipments by the American manufacturer. At the moment treat difference of opinion is noted in Wall .^trert circles regarding the Immediate future of :he stack market, but In the higher financial circles no attempt is made to conceal the belief that, barring an adverse change in the country's Industrial and financial condition, higher quota tions nil] be recorded in the stock market. The fact that many plans are being made by various railroad companies and Wall Street financiers /it the flotation of bonds In the near future en courages the idea that every effort will be made by the controlling Wall Street interests to main tain a high level of values in the securities mar ket. It is an easy matter to sell bonds when prices on the Stock Exchange are advancing. BOND MARKET TRADING. (i'IVKF.NMKNT B' i.VUS.- ilark^t eleady. Final ■"How: Bid. Arkrd.l Bid.
