8 BAD COIH FOR RLVOLT T-i0 Charged wit! .Counter f 'citing -'to' Aid 'Castro's Foci, 3y th-> arrest yesterday at two men in this city by Secret Service agents, charged with a plan to counterfeit. Venezuelan. 'sHver jjollars. there ■aas revealed a gigantic and unique scheme to organize and maintain an insurrection against President Castro with spurious money. The men arrested In connection with this re markable plan w>Mw Captain George. R. F^>yn ton and .Lcwlh M. Thomson, who said he wait a lawyer, with offices at. No. 42 Broadway and redding at Bayport. Long Island, while Joseph and Sydnsy Keller, who constitute the firm of Keller Brothers, die makers, at No. "»70 \V*st Broadway. were arrested for having the dies for making the money in their possession. - Captain Boynton, .who" told of the purpose of tjie money which he had planned to have turned out, explained that the issue was to be legal ized by executive decree as soon as the revolu tion had succeeded in deposing President Cas tro. The captain also exhibited a document pur porting to be signed by A. Y. Salinas, secre tary general of the "Regenerating Revolution ists." which appointed Captain Boynton supreme chief of the cause. Local Venezuelans', some of whom are inter ested in a revolutionary' movement against Cas tro, backed with good Ramey. said last night that they had never, heard of Seflor Salinas. Captain Boynton and Mr. Thomson, who char acterized their alleged counterfeiting scheme as a "war measure." were arraigned before Com missioner Ridge way. in the Federal Building, where they entered a formal plea of not guilty. They were released, pending examination on next Monday, in $3,000 bail. Surety was furnished by Joel M. Marx, who appeared for the men. The arrest of Captain Boynton and !\J,r. Thorn eon, who said he was acting as adviser, was evi dently regarded by the Secret Service men as of unusual importance, for Chief. Wilkie came to New York from Washington, accompanied' by August^ F. Pulido, secretary of the Venezuelan legation. * Captain Boynton was arrested as he was cross- Ing the Wall street ferry on his way to his home, the St. George Hotel. Brooklyn. When Captain Boynton came to New York from Venezuela in June he first met Mr. Thom son, an 'old acquaintance, and interested him in the revolution. He wanted to find a man who would advance $in,oo<» with which to buy silver bullion. The captain he'd out the prom lee of a bonus of ?*MHW to such a contribu tor—providing, of course, that the movement Should be successful. Mr. Thomson talked the thing over with a few of his friends, among .whom were some members of the sporting fra ternity who are used to taking a long chance for their money. One «»f these men told Chief Flynn what he had learned. Chief Flynn as signed Aggnt Mosier to investigate. He ( was Introduced to Mr. Thomson as the keeper of a gambling house and a prospective "angel," and was In turn introduced to Captain Boynton. who unfolded his remarkable plans. Silver bullion was to be purchased for- the fl<H«Kf he sought and with dies made in New York they were to go to a little place in th^ delta of the Orinoco and "make money." When the bad money had been exchanged for goo;! money they were to buy ships, munitions and the other accessories of war. Mr. Hosier "liked the plan." and wanted an opportunity to see the <lies in which his money was to be sunk. Captain Boynton. it is said, had these dies in hie possession when arrested. At the office of Chief Flynn Captain Boynton showed his authorization from the "Regener ating Revolutionists" to do anything he deemed necessary to advance the cause' of "regenera tion." There was also found in the captains possession a receipt from Keller Brothers for. $1,500 in part payment for dies, hubs and plates. The receipt showed that there was still $1,000 tee. A March, was made of Keller Brothers" estab lishment, where more dies were found. . Mr. Thomson denied all knowledge of the ordering uf the dies, saying he was interested only in ob taining money for the revolution. Joseph and Sydney Keller were held in f>t.sOO bail each for having the dies in their possession. Their examination was set down for Septem ber 0. According to the sign on Mr. Thomson's of- Bee door at No 41' Broadway, he is a "book buyer." Captain Boynton has also been engaged in selling book*, and it is said that he sold to th«- Gaekwar of Baroda. on that dignitary's lecent visit to Mew York, a serifs of editions de luxe amounting to Si;."..tHM». When seen at Irs home. N">. J.V.t West 23d Etr et, last night. Oeneral Antonio Parades, head of a movement against Castro, raid: "1 have never beard of any one by the name of Captain Boynton. nor <io 1 know any general in my coun try by the name of Salinas. If you ask me. I think the whple thing is a fake. We will fight Cartrr». Hit not with those arms. If the so . ailed Captain Boynton had any revolutionary plot on foot I would surely know of it, since, as it is known, I am very soon to start a revolu tion against the government of Castro." TELEPHONE ALLIANCE ESTABLISHED. Consolidated Has Not Bought the Great Eastern. However. Representative* of the New York and New Jer sey Telephone Company, concerning the reported purchase of the Oreat Eastern Telephone Com pany, which i? planning to establish an independent service in this city, by the Consolidated Telephone Company <>f Buffalo, the Independent concern there, declared yesterday that an alliance and not a purchase had been affected. J. Aspinwall Hodge, counsel for the New York Electric Lines Company, which is controlled by the Great Eastern, said that for sever..: months negotiations between the local s. nd the Buffalo companies] had been In progress. The alliance would insure a New York connection, he said, for the independent subscrib ers of the Consolidated in Buffalo. Rochester and Syracuse, and would give the New York subscrib er* to the independent service an out-of-town con nection, which they could obtain otherwise only over (lie B<-)] lines. He declared that since Justice Bischoff's decision the Electric Lines Company held "an Irrevocable contract" with New York City, the only legal point at issue being whether the company must line the Empire Subway Com pany's duct?. This will be argued in October, and once settled, the independent company, ba viii!, would begin actual work on its plant hero.
