Former City Employe, Just Back • from Europe, a Suicide: just a week after his return from a two months' tour of Europe, Welford P. Saroni. of No. 21 <» West 44th street, ended his life yester day by hanging himself in his room. Saroni was formerly a surveying englneor in v ' the : water de partment. He gave up that job and took a trip to Europe. He returned last Wednesday. Saroni was discovered In ' his room shortly after noon by Washington Dickinson, proprietor of the apartment hot;se where . Saroni and his father lived. Mr. Dickinson went, to Saroni's room to see i the- young man about a business matter, and found him hanging from, a closet door by a short piece of stout cord, fastened to the top of the door. The string was so long that the young man's feet were on the floor, and he was in a half kneeling position. It would have been easy for him at any time before he lost consciousness to have sot up on his feet and paved himself from. death. The body was cut down by a patrolman. When Dr. Barker, of Roosevelt Hospital, reached the room he said that Saroni had been dead for several hours. Saroni was last seen yesterday morning by John Costello. who lives In the same house.
