January 23, I!¥X7. COFTTSE— The coffee market made a pretty steady ahewlcg during to-day's session, nnd after opening un changed to lo points lower recovered the loss and closed steady, net unchanged to 5 points higher. Bull support and covering caused the advance, both being promoted by the smaller receipts at Junl!ahy and bullish reports from the coming crop. Solee fur the day were reported of about 70,<>0ij bags, and during the late trading It looked a* If the demand from shorts was sufnclent to permit some of the big bulls to ease their lines somewhat at ti.<» advance, which la always a very hoalthy si*rn la the commodity markets. The opening decline was due to disappointing French cables. Havre belnc •+ to H franc lower at the hour of the local opening. Bullish seatl ment was helped to some extent by the advance of 223 r*le In the IUo market following several days of inac tion and nominal quotations, which Is supposed to reflect th* beginning of the influence of the Brazilian govern mact'a purchases, which must now absorb ail the dura ble grades received from day to day at prices eonsldera b'r above the consuming or regular maxk^ts. A cable from a prominent flnn stated that loousts were damag ing the new crop. Sales for the day ware estimated at only 75,000 bales, and prices closed steady at a net decline of 233 points on the old crop, with October 1 point higher. The opening was steady at unohanged prices to an advance of 1 point, but the market quickly eased off to a net de cline of about 4 OS points under selling by some of th* more timid of yesterday's buyers and bear pressure promoted by disappointing cables, larsjer estimates for to-morrow's receipts and bearish predictions as to the visible supply showing. At the decline there was a renewal of the buying by local bulls noted earlier In the week, and prices rallied during the middle session on continued talk of a late planting season, owing to open weather during the early winter and reports from th* South that mills were buying the low grades more) freely. After working up to a net advance of about 80< points, the market eased off again In the late trading under realising, and closed at practloally the low point of the day on the old crop months. October is holding relatively steady on the Idea that 'there will ba a bis rush for th* (rood grades from the new crop as soon as available, while the old crops In the local market are thought likely to rule particu larly weak later In the season by some operators on account of the low quality of the tall end supplies from the current crop. Southern spot markets were generally unchanged to He higher. Spot sales In the English market were smaller, and on* private cable was received saying that English spinners were well bought ahead. LAWSON Through public notice to-day says he would have It understood that ho favors no particular stock exchange house, but advises all buyers of Trinity to send to any one of the full list of stock exchange houses which are as follows. I do not agree with Mr. Lawson's broad tum-the-other cheek methods. Some stock exchange houses when asked to buy Trinity take occasion to slip in the knife in the interest of other coppers they are promoting. For this reason I recommend all buyers to a well-known, active New York and Boston Stock Exchange house which makes a spe cialty of coppers, Towlo & Fitzgerald, 98 Milk Street, Boston. Tele phone Main — 6940. Boston. LOOK HERE, MISTER, You are looking for an investment, and if you pass this by you are making a mistake of your life. I am not going to promise you lOOfo per year, or 50%, or make any foolish proposition, by saying I can get 25fc for you, and you keep your own money. NEITHER DO I SAY, I am helping you because I LOVE TO HELP THE PUBLIC. I have a business that is based on good, sound common sense and can show 20%. Now, when you come in and make this on your money, what happens? You are satisfied beyond measure, and you tell your friends. I get more business, and therefore make more money. There you have it: The more you make, the more I do, and we are all happy, as you are under no obligations to me, because it is an investment, pure and simple, and not charity. I do not care if you have only One Dollar ($1.00) a month to invest, or if you have One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) cash. Each person will get the same con sideration. Send me $10 or more by certified check, Postal or Express Order, and if you are not satisfied with investment, I will positively return your money. D. C. REICHARD. No. 2123 Land Title Building. The mar ket opened very firm and decidedly higher on buying that was Influenced by better cables than expected and a strong upturn In Western market*, notably at Chi cago. This advance Invited so - much selling, however, that It quickly disappeared^ and up to the last hour the market had an Irregular appearance, at times showing considerable heaviness from the amount of long wheat thrown over, but responsive, nevertheless to any good buying that from time to time, appeared. The final rally, which led up to the firm close, was due to liberal weekly clearances from both coasts and fresh outside buying.
