Will Act with Authorities in Averting Danger
to Tenement House Dwellers.
The two recent fires on the East Side which re
sulted In several deaths, and which were due partly
to the blockaded condition of the flr* escapes, were
productive of a mass meeting of the Janitors' Sc
ciety of New York nt th© Educational Alliance
Auditorium, In East Broadway, last night. TThile

MOTHER-IN-LAW KILLED TN FIGHT.
Police Say She Eeceived Blow Intended for
Her Daughter.
Mrs. Bertha KJrcheimer. a v.-idow, elxty-elght

her son-in-law, Henry Cohn. and her daughter May.

avenue, according to the police, and In falling she
struck her head against the door and died from a
fracture.

According to the police, he went to his mo:her-in
law's home tll« worse for drink. His wife, Mrs.
Kircheimer's daughter May. with her eight-months
old baby in her arms, met him «s hi entered, and
upbraided him for appearing In Bo Intoxicated
condition. This angered Cohn, and he made a rush
for his wife, who ran from the room. Mrs. Klrch
etmer blocked Cohn's way, the police say, as h«
pursued his wife, a:id the son-in-law's raised fist
fell upon Mrs. Kirchelmer's face. Sha fell and
struck her hi»ad upon the threshold.
