LE BOUTILLIER CELEBRATION Drygoods Business Has Been in Same Family Seventy Years. Celebration of the seventieth anniversary of the beginning of their business of deal ing in drygoods is a great event in th© history of l>e Boutilller Brothers, whose present establishment may ba compared in the mind's eye of the oldest inhabitants with the modest store in Broadway, next iloor to the onetime residence of John Jacob Astor. at Prince r.treet. where this tirin made the start that led to -greater things. The crowds that daily pass In and out of the big building In West 23d street, running through to West i.'d street, now occupied by La Koutillior Brother.-, know only of the extent of the business at its present location, the result of seventy years aC growth. l>ast Tuesday this firtn began to cele brate its anniversary, and ma elaborate preparations fear aa doing. Much bvlow usual price*, drygoods are to go to the pub lic as a mark of the esteem in which the Le Boutillhr firm holds all those who have contributed to its success. There, will be a series of these underprise aalea They win ra«t the public more than half way. They are planned to run three weeks and to carry out what the. firm calls it? HHURCH AND RELIGIOUS NEWS PROTESTANT EPISCOPAL CHURCH NEEDS ENDOWMENT FUND FOR DISABLED AND RETIRED MINISTERS. The pressing need * for an adequate en dowment fund for disabled and retired ministers of the lYotestant Kpiscopel Church has long bern emphasized. That no such fund has yet been raised deppite the earnest efforts of the Church is a fact which may well cause surprise when one consider* tho enormous endowments that are being constantly made for less needed and less pressing endeavors. After years of service ministers in the Church who have no Independent means of their own. aai who have been unable to save from their small sularie?. may have nothing better than the poorhou?e. to look forward to when age forces them to retire from active work— certainly they cannot expect a suitable provision from the income of the present endowment fund. This is indeed a Bad state, of affairs, and one that the laity of the church as well as its ministers and bishops should make every effort to remedy. The former espe cially should contribute to such an endow ment fund liberally, «nd it if doubtful if donations could be made for anything bet ter than to relieve this situation. It is true that collections are devoted from time to time for such an endowment fund, but these collections aggregate but small amounts m comparison with the sum ii''C<l»'d, and so far no philanthropist has seen fit to make, BBJ really largo contribu tion. The Dine has come for the clergy and tlie traps of the church to bring the ques tion of this endowment fund more strongly before the public than it has ever yet been brought. [From The Tribune Bureau.] Wa»l-lnict,,n. April £. INTCBXSTIZCa IMSCLOSUREd COM ING.—An nve.^tHratlon of decided Interest: to friends of the navy is likely to result from the adoption of a resolution by the Senate which will bring to light the ex tensive correspondence between the riecre tary of the Navy, the Paymaster General and the Attorney General regarding the naval supply fund. This correspondence, while voluminous, has been guarded with the utmost secrecy, but It In the purpose of the Senate Committee on Naval Affairs to bring it to light in connection with their Investigation of the status of th«» fund. It Is also the purpose of the Senate commit tee to call the Paymaster General before it and Interrogate him regarding the situa tion. In the mean time instructions have been sent to the commandant of the navy yard at Brooklyn and to commamianta of all othfr navy yards, 'Informing them that it is tlie purpose of the Navy Department to have the naval supply fund put on a legal basis as soon as possible, with a total value of fc',7<JO,O6M In ordinary commercial supplier and money. This means a reduc tion of the amount of stock now carried in naval storehouses at the yards by near ly «j«,u«>>. "I "which about |3.i»*.e*» *• estimated to be the value of .«ro«-k at lir«»oklyn. It lias been dei-'.ded that this excess of stock may be drawn by the vari ous bureaus without rharjeing tiie value of th« material against the bureau appropria tion. Nhvhl officers who are inter* in the supply fund as an Institution < •• com mercial as well an military convenience to the service say that there will be a scram ble on the part of the bureau representa tives to get pos»»>«'Bion of generous frac tions of this stock. It is destined to be drawn, whether there Is use for it or not, and there will be. it Is predicted, the es tablishment of private stores or a sort of secret hoarding of th» stock by bureau-* against the time they may want to use the material.
