Whether it is the high cost of living- that has driven people to give up housekeeping and patronize the restaurants, or whether it is merely the growth in the population, as shown by the last census, that is re sponsible, the fact remains that the busi ness of the Child- Company, which oper ates a chain of restaurants in this and other cities, has increased to such an ex tent that the directors have felt warrant ed In increasing the dividends on the com mon stock. They put it on a 10 per cent yearly basis yesterday when they declared a quart payment of 2-j per cent on the issue, an increase of one-half of l per cent over the last preceding disbursement, three months ago. The directors also declared the usual quarterly dividend of l?i per cent on the preferred stock. Both dividends are payable December 10. MR. Xov. 23. — Reorganization of the American Soda Fountain Company has been decided on, according to a. statement made to-day at the head offices of the cor poration. Isaac F. North, treasurer and general manager of the company, said that a plan or reorganization will be taken up at a special meeting of stockholders. It I was necessary, he said, to enable the com pany to pay dividends from future earn ings, lie added thai the company had never been insolvent, as charged by the op ponents of the present management.
