Wrltlng to H. B, ihamberlain, of ihattanoona, on March 7. 1B11, Mr. ADVERTISING TALKS 9?v Willttm C. Frecman Mr. William H. Clevcrly, who was reccntly made cashicr of the Seaboard Bank, plays goif and keeps himself human and in good health by doing so. He keeps cobwebs off of his brain by being out in the open. It makes him a clear thinker. We sat at a round table in the Dining Room of the Dyker Meadow Golf Club not long ago discussing New York newspapers and their value as advertising media. Mr. Clevcrly said of The Tribune something that pleased me very much. He told me that the President of the Seaboard Bank had alwaya measurcd all other newspapers by The Tribune. which he designated as "The Cibraltar of Decency." That is a pretty good reputation to have, is it not? Around that table sat a representative of a store doing the largest business in New York, and another man doing probably the largest pnnting business. Both favorably commented on Mr. Cleverly's state ment. They aaid: "No newepaper ever had a higher compliment paid it, than to be called 'The Gibraltar of Decency.' "The Tribune has made many friends by its coursc. It is a great news paper. We predict for it a speedy and worth-while success. There is room in New York for a newspaper of very high ideals such as The Tribune has, and more people all of the time will support it." Thie incident is related juat to prove that a newspaper with a good name, which circulates among thinking people, who respect decency and admire integrity and intelligence, is a valuable advertising medium for those merchants and manufacturers who transact business on a high plane of reliability and effkiency. There are many such merchants and manufacturers in New York and throughout the country?in fact they represent a big majority. The Tribune can and will be of service to them by protecting them under its banner "The Gibraltar of Decency."
