Fee Charged tor Investigation Arranged in Advanco. 44T"\ 0 YOU mean to say if the stock of the Bell Telephone. 1 at the inception of the company, had been offered "*-^^ for investigation to be advertised under 'The Tri? bunal' that you would have refused the advertising?'' "Refused" was not just the word to use. We explained to the gentleman who asked the question that such an invest? ment at the inception of any company was too speculative to warrant the publication of an advertisement under "The Tri? bunal." lhat the security for such an investment was dependent on a problematical market. That one could not foresee just what this market might be. Aithough the proposition might appeal to our common sense, the intent of this classification was to publish only such investment opportunities as were conserva tively secured, AS NOW. We assured him we believed advertising such as he offered perfectly legitimate. We were famiiiar with the product for which he wanted to finance a manufacturing plant. We knew that the article had been thoroughly tested. The article had not been placed on the market. Qualified practical experts had stated that a market was assured. We believed in the article and its probable future, but we do not believe a problematical market sufncient security to warrant The Tribune in giving to its readers under 'The Tri? bunal" a guarantee that such a proposition was a safe and sound investment for their money. We explained to this gentleman that UNDER CERTAIN COND1TIONS his proposed advertising might be published in The Tribune as a purely speculative proposition, but not under "The Tribunal." That he would have to specifically state that the proposi? tion was speculative. That the company did not seek the in? vestment of the savings of "widows and orphans," but only such investors who could afford to take a chance on a specula? tive opportunity with the hope that the return from the invest? ment would repay, if successful, the chance taken. There are many su<_h investors. 1 hey are seeking such opportunities. They will invest large sums when the proposi? tion appeals to their judgment and they feel sure of the hon esty of purpose and integrity of the promoters. We would necessarily have to feel sure of the honesty and integrity of the promoters before such advertising could appear anywhere in The Tribune. But with such a conviction we can picture an advertise? ment with appeal strong enough to warrant any promoter tak ing this means to finance any speculative venture?but, of course, it could not appear under "The Tribunal." lt does not take many investors with $10,000 or more to finance even big propositions. We repeat that "The Tribunal" was not designed for in vestments of this character. To appear under this classification they must be conservative, and the preaent security must make the investment a safe one. The advertisement published below is considered a safe and sound inVestment. We offer it to Tribune readers with the assurance that we believe it to be so.
