Small Subscribers Help Brokers' Victory Drive Total Below Half Way Mark; Mr. Marling Hopes to Pass 83.000,000 To-day; $61, 950 Subscribed Yesterdav The real estate division has pushed its total in the Victory Loan drive among the topmost in tho Hat of trade divisions which ore working: to put over the fifth bond issue. The division stands eighth in total subscriptions. Yesterday was the quietest day the brokers have had since they launched their drive ten days ago. Tho teams wero all in the field, working hard for their daily quota of $300,000, which Chairman Alfred E. Marling said sev? eral days ago was necessary if the drive was to be put over. The best they could do, however, was to B?gn up a number of small subscriptions, which, though showing the popularity of the drive, did not add ruaterially to the brokers' total. Theso same subscriptions and sev? eral ranging from ?2,000 to J10.000, gave them a total for the day of $61,960. The reports show twenty-two persons subscribed $1,600 to yesterday's total. Ten persons each purchased a $100 bond and twelve a $50 bond. Tho grand total last v. ght for the division was $2,811,600. This is a dailv average of $281,r60. The broker? : hard to put tho total over tho ?3,000,000 mark. They would havo dono it bad several promised subscrip? tions been received. There is no doubt. nbou: the halfway mark being reached to-day, Mr. Mariing said. In fact, he is sure that his total this evening will be well over $3,000,000. Tho largest buI tcriptlons yesterday were from Douglas L. Elliman & Co. and E. E. Smatbers. Tho Elliman firm contribu? i $10,000, and Mr. Elli? man gave $5.000 as his per onal sub Bcription. Mr. Smathers contributed ?10,000; the New York x'roduce Ex change Bank, $0,000; tho Kroadway i Lane Company, $5,000; Mit. Flake, $3.000, and Charles S. Lyons, $2,000. Mr. Marling said that the division was still on the job, and unless ho was very much mistaken would have its > quota before tho final gong was sounded.
