West ShoreTraM Hits ?NDIANA.3?fuck at Orangeburq,N.YonJulu0~ Truck proceeds in spite of terrific impact, picks up load of pipe and returns to garage in New York City 20 minutes late. A sharp curve hid the train as this 5-ton INDIANA TRUCK ran out upon the West Shore tracks near Orangeburg, N. Y. The driver "gave her the gas" and jumped just as the huge engine struck head on backed by the force of mail and baggage cars and ten full passenger coaches running at 25 miles an hour. The wooden body of the truck was splintered, the steel frame twisted almost at right angles and the truck rebounded to the track, tearing up the heavy rails for several yards. Miraculously the driver, Max Hecht, escaped alive?" He says: "Imagine my surprise when I found that the truck was able to proceed under its own power." He proceeded to his destination, picked up a load of pipe and drove to New York. Reporting at the INDIANA Service Station, he was astounded to learn that the running gear of the truck was absolutely uninjured. The frame, twisted nearly at right angles by the terrific impact of the collision, showed not a single crack. More remarkable still, the rear axle was in perfect condition.
