Re? ductions of as much as 60 per cent in some cases are reported to have been decided upon, but it is considered likely that the average will not be quite so great. Increased pressure is being brought to bear by retailers to dispose of large stocks at prices that will move the goods, so that inventories will not be large. Some, no douot, have obligations maturing at that time ; and are pressed for cash. Many hirije stores continue to do capacity business, but in most cases! profits were shaded before holiday buy-! mg began on a large scale and business ? now keeps up to that of last week and ; early this week. _ Commercial Credit Conditions in the commercial money j market showed comparatively little | change yesterday, with rates holdingj steady around 7*4 per cent for the i ?general run of bills.
