The Veteran American Athletic Club Im
the Field
The American Athletic Club hold Its fifteenth
annual games yesterday upon its grounds at
135th street and Railroad avenue Tho Games
Committee made all arrangements to have a
BuoceBstnl day and had tbe old grand stand
and fences prettily decorated with red white
and blue bunting the clubs colors The
games were started promptly 3 P M but
after two boats of the seventyflroyardB race
had been run the rain came down In torrents
After a delay of ten minutes the sport was re
sumed and the game went off In rapid order
There seems to be a great deal of trouble
with the American Clubs track and few if
any of tho officers of the club know where the
exact finish of any of the mile race should be
Some say Its an even five laps to the mile
while others contend its fifteen yards over the
mile At any rate both starting points were
used yesterday Billy Burckhardt was sent
Away from an exact lap and finished there
going no doubt fifteen yards over the mile
while George and Hj rtberg the two scratch
men In tho onemile run were despatched
from a mark about fifteen yards from where
Uurckhardt ran The matter as to where tho
start and finish of the onemile races should
ba ought to ba settled at once
In the final heat of the oOOyards race an M
eldeD occurred that may lar up one of the
runners for some time On rounding tho first
corner B Houston of tho Pastime A 0 and
J Glenn of the National A 0 collided and
had quite a bad fall Both men were rathor
seriously Injured
As usual the contest for the point banner
caused great excitement and for the first
time In a lone while the New Jersey Athletic
Club boys were beaten Tho trophy wa won
by th American Athletic Club Prof John T
CrosRiey of the Columbia Athletta Club of
Wnahlolrton Watl pre ont to look after Elliott
The latter ran quite well and won a second
prize In the seventylive yards run The f ol
mine wore the officials
