Stimulated by furthor uafnvorablo reports about Uio Russian crop and by additional buy. lng for forelun Account, Uio prico of wheat took another Jump yesterday. Tho icsnlt waa inoro excitement on tho Produce Kichange than It has won In months. Prices shifted rapidly and traders had all tho business thoy could attend to. Shortly after tho market opened a purchase of ten boatloads of wheat for future dcltrcry for a Continental account was recorded. Thoro were traders on the floor curious enough to In quire for Just what account the purchase was made. A carof ul Investigation brought ont that the wheat, when shipped, will be delivered In France. Thero have been rumon for some tlmo that Franco would be a buyer of American wheat thla year. Thopurohaee yesterday, how aver, was tho first one that has thus far keen traced to tho French aocount. f IUght on top of this oame a cable from Parla iV to one of the largest grain commission houses tfj In the city saying that, owing to the ahortnoss ni ' , of her own wheat crop, France will soon abolish f i . the import duty on wheat. This news, although '' not backed up officially, was taken as a sotne- S.V what startling indication of what this year's k? Yrheat crop In France will really be. ' The market took anothor Jump when these re- ' ports got Into circulation, and advanced still further when It was learned that Inquiries from Draril for twenty boatloads of wheat had ,.. been mado Just alter the markot opened. They will H: learn, for Instance, after the money has found 6 its war Into their pocket, that it wasn't B.-yan ft and his nostrums they wanted to make them ;S prosperous, but a markot for their crop. Tho tarUT alt uatloa at Washing ton continue to bold the market In check. The falling off In deaUnin to-day, as compared with yesterday, wasprtmounoed.butdulness waa not accompa nied as It frequently Is by a lower rato ot prlocsj on the contrary, the market was, with the ceptlon of a comparatively small number of stocks, strong throughout. Tho exceptions were comparatively unimportant. Among them wcro ' Consolidated Gas, Manhattan Railway, and Sus quehanna and Western stock Tho publicity given yestorday to tho only acknowledged movement for a chango In the control of tho Busquehanna and Western Company evidently dampened the ardor of professional operators and of traders generally, who thought thoy had discovered In tho shares of tho company a second New York and New England market mystery. The Susquehanna and Western road undoubtedly has a strategic os well as In trinsic value, but neither Is likely to be Im proved should tho control pass Into tho hands of tho amiable financier who have gone abroad to Interest foreign capital In the company, presumably for the profit that might be secured by extending tho road until it should become a disturbing factor In tho anthracite coal trad and among the trunk linos. Persistent circulation of report that substantial Interests are likely to secure control of the property to prevent Us becoming a dis turbing factor as Indicated above and to utilise It In connection with some one of the largor coal carrying companies were not corroborated by tho dealing In Susquehanna and Western shares nor by tho prices recorded for them. The heaviest trading was In Sugar rtoQnlng Bt. Paul, Brooklyn Rapid Transit, and Loul-, vllle and Nashville. They worn tho only stock In which the transactions exceeded 10.000 shares. The last two scored net gains ot m V cent each. The advance in Louisville and Nashville was regarded with a good ileal ot sat isfaction In vlow of tho recent steady selling of that stock by London and the fact that foreign arbitrage houses wero buyers of It to-day. The unusual transactions In Brooklyn Rapid Transit securities and sales ot both the stock and the bonds at tho highest prices yet recorded for them revived rumor of posslhlo alliances between the company and connecting lines. Sugar Roflnlng was comparatively neglected, and although tho most trustworthy advices from Washington foreshadow the ultimate adoption of too House sugar schedule, tho stock rallied la cent, from tho lowest price and dosed fractionally higher than yesterday. The trading In It was almost entirely professional, and traders for either account betrayed unusual nervousness. The further rlso In the price of wheat, together with cumulative evi dence that unusual demands for bread stufrs will be made upon this country during tho present crop year, account for the underlying strength of the market for the shares of tho Granger trunk lines. A further material advance In East River Gas securities Is ac counted for by the announcement of the plan for consolidating tho company with tho Equitable Gas Light Company, details of which are prin tod In another column. Minor features of the mar ket were evidence of renewed Interest In Atchi son and In American Spirit and noteworthy net advances In a number of stock that are rarely dealt In. The closing was strong at the best prices. Final sales compare with those ot yesterday as follows: July 18. Julv 16. JMylS. July 19.
