The directors of the Sew York and East River Gas Company formally recommended to the stockholders of that company yesterday that they deposit their shares with the Central Trust Company under the plan of union with the Equitable Gas Lijht Company which was adopted on Sept. 1. The d rectors of the Equitable Company took similar action last Thursday, t'nder the plan of union, the details cf which were made public yesterday, a new company will be organized to actjulre the prop erty or stocks ot the Equitable and East River companies.
