Bicycle Preparations for '98
WE were the first in the field for a general bicycle business watching every development from
the go-off of bicycle riding. Perhaps we were foolishly particular about selling wheels.
Unless a wheel was light enough to spin, and strong enough to carry an elephant, and constructed
to stay in order, we declined its acquaintance. Name-plates are good enough so far as they go.
but the wheel itself must be a thoroughbred before we can entertain it. We are not sellers of
what we can make money upon, but we sell well-constructed and tried single-seat carriages for
men and women, warranted by our guarantee not to go to pieces in short order and not to run up
bills of expense against the owner. Out of all these years we have gathered a bicycle experience.
Next year we will have our best year, because our plans are wiser and the wheels better.
The Latest Bicycle Thoughts
are built into steel and gears in the new '98 wheels just coming in. We discarded some of the
makes of wheels once popular and wearing well-known names, to make contracts with makers
whose well-tried wheels cannot but do larger credit though the profits be smaller.

For a large percentage of women, no more welcome gift could be found
