The Country Club golf, team ot this city, believing from the results of its various contests that it is in a position to play any team in tlie country consisting of trom twolva to llfteen men, with fair chances of winning on foreign grounds and moro than an even show on Its own course, is anxious to arrange for a team matoh or matches with somo one or mnro ot the most prominent Eastern clubs. Tho Country Club's entrance into tho golf world was made unassumingly four years ago, the team then being called the Thistle Golt Club. At the time there was little belief that any of the members would over provo to be players of more than ordinary merit, but now thero aro at least fifteen men who are nearly eonly matched and will undoubtedly provo a difficult proposition tor any similar team from any one club in tho country to defeat. A couple ot weeks ago tho Country Club team scored its second victory out of threo meetings over tho Toronto Golf Club by tho score of 20 up. Tho Canadian team came here and was anxious to wipe out its defeat on tho local grounds a year ago. Heading its list of players wero A. V. Smith, runner-upln the Edinburgh tournament otlast year, and w. II. Kerr, the Canadian ama teur champion. These stars werepittedagalnst Gurney T. Curtis, undoubtedly the best player on the local team, and J. G. Averell. Both ot the Country Club men wero beaten, although Smith had to equal the club record to do it and Kerr to set now figures for the course. A. H. Campbell beatLee and L. i Edgar beat Perkins. 'With those exceptions the nearest a Canadian camo to defeating a local man was when G. T. Brown tied J. 0. rowers. Thus four out of the fourteen visiting playors won from the ltoches ter men. The local team claims no stars of particular magnitude, but does believe that for consistent golf by a large number of membors it can make an exceptional showing nnd is therefore anxious to test its skill witli Eastern clubs that It has not yet met. Gurney T.Curtis numbers among his victories one over B. D. Bowers of tho Otsego Golf Club this year, and one ovor Jasper Lynch ot tho Lakowood Club last year. C. B. Hudson was tho winner of tho handicaps at Chicago lust season. J. O. Powers, holder of the local course record ; J. P.
