Now that tho Army-Navy football gams
has been abandoned the situation at
these two camps Is rather an oddity, and
the contests scheduled for those teams
for to-morrow take on more Importance.
The Army Is to meet Colgato and the
Navy will make Its only trip away from
home and play I'enn In Philadelphia. To
morrow thus becomes one of the leading
days of the fall for the midshipmen and
soldiers In the quality of their respective
opponents.
After meeting Penn the Navy engages

Howwver. tho Army haa Notr Dams to

rated nigh and bent on swatting two
Hastem elevens, Yale and the Army, the
contest with the Westerners becomes the
Army s main objective af.er gelling
through with Colgato, Colgate, by the
way, had the Army trimmed lott year
until the last fraction of a minute of play,
nnd the West Pointers have an account

the other teams to be met provo stronger

of the Army will depend largely on how
It gets by playing Colgato nnd Notra

If the Army-Navy encounter Is to stay

somo of the elevens or the big colleges of
the Cast will make the Army's ichedute
much more Interesting and give a better
line for rating the West Point teams.
The Navy's rank this year will depend a
good deal on what the midshipmen do to
the Quakers, incidentally the Navy al

of Pennsylvania footb-ill team was put
through a hard signal drill this afternoon
at Franklin Field, and when a fog floated
In nbout 6 o'clock that prevented the men
from seeing ten feet In front of them
Coach Otorge Ilrooke took tho squad Into
the gymnasium and gave the men two
hours mnro signal practice. The now
plays were run through time nnd again,
and after each signal the coaches asked
each man Just what he would do under all I
possible conditions. It was slow and
tedious work, but It brought to light many
wtong Ideas.
The team now has a much more exten
sive list of plays, somo of which. Includ
ing those developed by Dr, Oar! Wllllntns.
are expected to catch tho Mlddlts off their
guard Saturday. Norwnld, the centre who

and hail easy work.
Cornell Dels Outdoors Again,
Itiiaoa, Oct. 15. Cornell footbsll prac

the players continued to drill for tho 1

out on the gridiron by undergraduates
has caused considerable annoyance to the
coaches, And It was determined that It
would be better to bar all spectators. It
may be decided not to hold any more open
practices this your.
The tangible results of the two day
practice In the baseball cage were brought
nut to-day In the last scrimmage of the
week. The plays that have been studied
carefully Indoors were put In execution
and tho varsity made ti satisfactory show
lug. Shuler, Collyer, Harrett nnd Klein

had a. hard time checking tho rush. The
