carpet mills of the Alexander Smith
Sons Carpet Company, which have been
operating on part time for several
weeks, will resume full operations on
Monday, July 12, It was announced here
to-day.
Tho company employs between 7.R00
and 8,000 persons. Owing to a short
bbo of dyextuffn, which were Imported
from Clermany, tho company) opera
tions were curtailed last fall. The news
that the mills are to run on full time
was received Joyfully by Yonkcrs mer-
chants, because It means tho release of
a weekly payroll of between $76,000 and

down. Auntrlan kronen were an ex
ception, closing unchanged, Sterling ex
change aim closed comparatively firm
and at the same prices at wthlch It was
quoted at the end of the day's business
on Tuesday, but during the course of
trading yesterday It sold at new low
prices. At one time during the day de
mand sterling was selling as low as 4.7G,
with cables at 4.76. The previous'
low records for sterling exchange were
4.75"s for demand and 4.76 for rabies.
At the close of the market sterling was
quoted at 4.76 '.4 for demand and 4. 7714
1 for rabies, unchanged from Tuesday's
last prices.
Franca were quoted last night at 6.70
for checks and MS for cables, on com
pared with a previous close of 5.06 tor
tho former and S,65;4 for the latter.
Marks closed at 81 1-16 for sight drafts
and 8114 for cables. On Tuesday the
elofdng prices were MH for the former
and 81T4 for the latter. Italian lire
sold at 6.18, against a previous close of
6.16. Austrian kronen were unchanged
at 15.10.
