PAPER LEADS PULP IN CANADIAN EXPORTj TRADING ON CURB HAS FIRM TONE Lh?iiM.?l''t -1 The cotton Market was featured by a late advance, led by. the near month, scjterdar. Well Street .ond outaldo thorts found that a great Bcarclty of March' una May contracts existed In iho last hour nnd active bidding on their liart and a Uttlo new support by local lulls made for a rlee of 4 to tl point. Ttio market again reflected the lack of uny frtsh feature that might Induce the larger operators to reenter. Early In tho day discussion centred around tho reported demoralised stato of tho mar let In Alexandria, Egypt. The recent decline on tho Egyptian exchange, It la raid, has spelled ruin for-several large Arms established In that centre. Al though Liverpool was about as dud at tho start, tho Kngllah market broke sharply In tho lator trading, principally an tho result of liquidation on the un settling outside report. Liverpool spots were quiet, 4,000 bates chanting hand. First sales In tho local -market showed nn opening dccllno ot 3 to 1.1 points. Hears emphanld weakness of cables and early heaviness In securities. Thero was but Uttlo of Interest during most forenoon and early afternoon business, fluctuations being confined to a narrow range. Aside from light operatlona by ring traders and a steady amount of rhort covering in March but Uttlo trod was transacted. March entered Into new high ground early nnd, although the later three options ruled generally un der Monday's final, May. Influenced by the action of the spot Contract, held at about 10 points over Monday's ending. Tho market turned active In tho last hour, particularly In Its laat half Shorts seemed nervous and reports that the Allies were considering sanctioning an International loan to Germany to put her on her feet economically Increased the already uneasy state. Trade shorts were among those caught In tho near month rise, but thero was also a certain amount of fresh support by old bull operators. At the close of the session the market was not far from tho beet, 60 points, higher to 8 lower, and local cpots wcro again at a new high, or 40.50 cents a pound. Hasp of rrlces: Mon Open. Illrh. Low.
