"The year 191D wan a tiaiiiltlonal one for this coinp.iny. We entered upon flv major enterprises, which we had planned would bo fully developed, organized, and In 'running order by the autumn of 1919. The shutting down of tho coal mines, which cut off our fuel supply Tor nearly two months, labor strikes, railroad em bargoes, non-delivery of machinery necessary to complete our plants, are among some of the obstructions that prevented their completion, and there fore It was Impossible for these plants to attain a state where their business and yleldB would have shown results that we believe would otherwise have been obtained. With the removal of these difficulties we believe that the re sults of the present year's business will fully realize our expectations. Not withstanding all the obstructions to which wo have alluded above, we have made satisfactory and successful head way In tho production of miscellaneous syrups and molasses, preserved fruits, compressed yeast, vinegar, animal feed stuffs and by-products." illtfCillet Servlie pf ;ou CVi ISO! Open. High. Iw. Ijiit. .. 23 II 12 21 2.30 1.90 The cotton market continued Its up ward movement yesterday, advancing more than half a cent a pound during tho afternoon. Business was not an nctlve as on Tuesday but bulls seemed encour aged by the apparent change In room .entlment. It was evident that many shorts had covered during the forenoon and reentered on the long side. Liver pool cables wero distinctly weak at the outset, chiefly due to Manchester selling on the a d verso fierman news. Toward the close of the session tho Kngllsh mar ket (iliowed rallying power. Spots In Liverpool were again quiet, but 4,000 rales changing hands. That factor was largely offset by strength In tho secu rities and foreign exchange markets, Al though there were at times periods of irregularity. The weather map Indicated unfavor able conditions In tho eastern belt nnd heavy precipitation at points, but some in central States. The weekly weather teport wan bullish on cotton but of small Importance as a factor. At the outset Kv prices were 10 points higher to 6 lower, and Immediately following the call there was a short (lurry of selling that carried the list slightly under the start ing level to the market's lowest of the day. Hccovcrles wero rapid nnd sub stantial, and during most of the morning prices ruled generally 10 to 40 points up from Tuesday's ending. Buying came lYom trade sources at times, and Wall Street took considerable cotton as the session progressed. Exports for the day were heavy, and not a little talk of an Increased move ment to Europo was heard.. The spot situation was not much changed, and the policy of the holder is evidently bearing some fruit. In the last hour business be came really brisk, with March, the spot month, again recording a new high for a futures contract nt 40.24c, and May rising to a new high of 34.74c. The ad vance was accelerated by covering from outside Interests which Hhowed alarm over continued strength in the staple. The market closed finally firm at a net advance of 15 to 55 points, and local spots finished once more unchanged at 11 cents a pound. Ranre of prices: Tues day, BALTIMORE. Sales. Open. High. Low. GRAIN MARKET. Wall Street and the Waldorf crowd, short yesterday of May corn, were squeezed, nnd squeezed tightly, when they endeavored to cover. Prevl cusly they had tried unsuccessfully to press deliveries, but offerings were absorbed quickly by commis sion house?, which took tho corn out '.f the market. When the bears Btarted to cover they found corn a scarce com modity. Deliveries were bid up rapidly. May touching 157VJ. and with the other months reaching high marks for the reason, home of the buying on that ad vance resulted from announcement that Egypt had purchased 14i,000 tons of white corn flour. Eighty thousand bushels of corn are required for that nmount of flour. Other bullish factors were strength In the cash corn, Improved tcne in oats, higher hogs and Argentine news. South American reports were particularly encouraging to longs, sis hey told of labor troubles and bubonic plague. The market was higher at the outset in advance In securities, exchange and prospects for German credits. But Im mediately afterward longs took profits and bears. tried to press values on ad-1 vices of Eastern reselling and reports nt more cars In Illinois. Some believed that the technical condition had ticcn v-cakened after such a rapid advance. The decline did not make much head way, corn being easily absorbed, and nines advanced. Oats showed Independent strength : csterday and made good advances. New Yorkers were credited with buying heavily In the late trading, The cash trado In that cereal remains strong. lYovislons were under the influence o( the grains. There was some buying on belief that German credits would be established. CORN In the local cash market No. 2 yellow wns quoted st SI 34 : No. 2 mixed, 11.83; cost and freight, New Tork.
