Though it had not been fancied particularly to win any of the honors In races with Harvard and Pennsylvania. Princeton Vame to the fore In most striking fashion r.nd came within an ace of making a clean sweep of the entire programme, which consisted of varsity. Junior varsity nd freshman eights. The Tigers took both the varsity and the freshman con tests and lost tho Junior event. It was I'rlnccton's first showing of the peason. ;tnd Its victories will make It a favorite for the regatta to b rowed with ale nnd Cornell at Princeton on May 15. The summary, of tho afternoon's regatta. Is ax follows: Varsity Eights FIrpt, Princeton : sec ond. Harvard: third, Pennsylvania. T(mc. 9 minutes 47 seconds. Distance, one mile and seven-eighths. Harvard s time, 3 minutes 50 seconds. Won by one-third of a length. Two lengths be tween second and third. Harvard. Time, 10 minutes .4 seconds. Harvard's time, 10 minutes 16 seconds. Won by half u length. TlR-r Cab In Bpnrt. The Princeton yearlings, trailing the r.im.nn l.ut never turtner away than twenty-five feet, possessed a wonderful burst of speed In the last nunureu yarns of the race and lumped Harvard In' the final spurt. The Tiger yearlings were 'together beautifully In their stroke, which was running lower man Har vard's, but having the power that was reeded. So powerful In fact were the Tiger freshmen that their shell crossed the. line a full half length ahead of the Crimson. Later", and after losing th race for the second crews, the Princeton varsity not only showed the fine form It demon strated In yesterday's practice but like the freshmen showed stamina and rac ing power. In tills race tho Tigers had the course on the Boston side, with Har vard In the middle lane and Pennsyl vania next. The Pennsylvania got nway poorly and were never In the rac ing, there being open water between the Quakers nnd the leading crews very rwjn after the half mile had been . parsed. I'cHween Princeton and Harvard, how ' ever, the contest was a fight all the way. Starting at even Harvard In the first furlong was able to1 forge ahead perhaps ten feet. In the freshman race tw Tigers rowed the lower stroke, but once the varsities were under way the Jerseymen were pulling rl 33 beats to 34 far Harvard. Ilnrvnrd Srts Face.
