TJio cotton marker showed n strong reactionary tendency during yesterday' session, nml, with the exception of July, boIJ i0 to nearly 70 nplra lower es ft result of heavy profit taking and local bear operations. July's strength contin ued, and that month again scored n now high record when It sold up to 43 cents, an advanca of B0 points from Tuesday's final price ' Although tho weather was rainy In moat parts of the fotton belt, ft was evident that that' factor had been thor oughly discounted. Tho official weekly weather report q,f tho Department of As rlcOlluro was, however, a good deal of a eurprlso to many In tho trade. It con tained many bearish features, and pro moted not a llttla midday selling by Wall Street operators. Official forecasts pre dicted further showers In tho eastern belt to-day and cloudiness west of the Mississippi. Detailed bulletins Indicated general rnlns over most of tho belt Liverpool cables were nbput as ex pected except In July, which did not fol low our rlso of Tuesday. Spot business In tho English raw cotton trading centra continued moderate. 7,000. bales of tho ticiual artlclo changing hinds. First prices here were a point to 23 points lower, tho market having a barely steady undertone nt tho outset. Immedi ately after tho call selling pressure In creased and active months were soon forced to 25 to 45 points less than Tues. day's closing quotations. July agoln worked In an opposlto direction, and spot month contracts wore exceedingly scarce at-times. There was a tendency to pay more attention to outsklo conditions, which continued to bo unfavorable from a bull standpoint. Further curtailment was reported from New England and Southern mill centres. Tho early decline uncovered several stop loss orders, ral lies from the, bottom bringing out fresh cotton. The South was among the most active sellers, believed to be for profit taking. Trices Increased when bearish nature of the weekly wenther report became evi dent, prices slipping off rapidly to more than half ii cent n pound les3 than Tues day's ending. The early afternoon un dertone was unsettled and weak and feeling among the trado Inclined to bo mixed. July notices wero estimated at about 6, nnd strength of the spot month was the feature during tho greater part of the business. There was a slightly Improved grade of support In the late afternoon session, prices moving to "about 15 to 23 points more than the bottom level. Business continued quiet, the close being unchanged to 53 points lower. Local spot was unchanged to 43 cents a pound. Ranfto of prices: Tues- Open. Hlch.
