LUNN TOCAMPAIGN
FOR SENATORSHIP
Will Try to Take Nomination
-Away From Walker.
Mayor George R. Lunn of Schenec
tady announced yesterday that as soon
as he has attended the formal notifica
tion of Franklin D. Roosevelt as the
Demoeralif Vlcs-Presldentlal nominee,
he will begin his active campaign to
take the Democratic nomination for the
United Slates Senate away from Lieut. -Gov.
Harry Walker, designee of the
Saratoga convention Mayor Lunn will
go to-morrow to the Broome county
fair and make a speech. Then he will
pass several days In conference with
friends, and hopes to begin his stump
ing tour by the latter part of this week
or the first of next. He will cover Ihe
State hy automobile.
Mayor Lunn's campaign will be a
war on "the bosses." He has In mind
one or two Democratic organization
leaders, concerning whom he will have
somewhat to say to the public, particu
larly one gentleman whose name he de
clines to disclose but who sent the Sche
nectady Mayor a message to the effect
that he would not let Lunn have a vote
In his town.
"Wait until I get done with that boss
and see whether 1 get any votes,'' said
Mayor Lunn. ' ,
"The attempt of the Democratic con
vention to differentiate between 'desig
nations' and 'suggestions' was a mere
camouflage. There la no provision In
the law for a 'suggested' ticket."
The "scuttle of suds" plank of the
Democratic platform, declared Mr.
Lunn, holds out very little Interest In
comparison with the League of Na
tions. Besides, he holda the view that
the prohibition question Is settled al
ready, and that promises to change con
ditions are futile. Concerning the
league, he said: "If elected, I will do
11 In my power to bring the best safe
guard of continued peace to this and
other countries by prompt ratification
of the League of Nations."
Likewise, George Henry Payne, who
Is fighting Senator James W. Wads
worth, the Republican designee for the
senatorial nomination, announced yes
terday new plans and support In his
campaign. According to Mr. Payne's
headquarters, his candidacy has re-
reived the Indorsement of F. L. Kram
ltch, general chairman of the Brother
hood of Railroad Signalmen of Amer
ica, consisting of employees of the New
Tork Central Hr.es east of Buffalo,
and Timothy Healy. international -president
of the- International Brotherhood of

IRISH REBELS PLAN
AN INTENSIVE WAR
Campaign Broadened in Tfopc
of Bringing Intervention
of Other Nations.
Bu fa Associates' Press.
Conic, Aug. 8. The military authori
ties claim to havs received Information
of the Intention of the Republicans to
inaugurate within the next three months
a war agaiiul the "Invaders'' on a much
larger ecale than heretofore. This In
formation Is declared to Indicate that re
cruiting for the "Republican Brother-,
hood." supposedly the "brains'' of the
Republican army, and which carries on
Its activities much more secretly than
the latter, has been more active lately,
resulting In the enrolment of large num
bers who heretofore have kept apart
from the movement.
There Js no hope of defeating the
British army, whictv la much better
equipped, but the leaders are expected
to create such a state of affairs as to
bring about international Intervention.
The Republicans, It la said, are not
overburdened with fund, but this Is
considered to be of small aonsequnce ss
it cota little to maintain the Republican

The curfew lioure from 10 o'clock in
the'evenlng Urtl! 3 o clock in the morn
ing have become hours of terror for a
large portion of the population of Cork.
Ae 10 o'clock sharp, military lorries
crowded with soldiers with, their rifles
ready for use and with the munles of
machine guns showing, start on a tour
xt the city. During tha curfew hours
booting frequently Is heard. The of
ficial report iseued dally gjtjrg the noise
comes from the troops being fired on
from houses, or firing as a result of the
failure of crowds to disperse.
On several occasions looting has oc
curred durlnj the curfew hours, and,
according to eyewltnesets. In one ease
at least, soldiers have been arrested by
their comrades in this connection. As a
rule there are few witnesses of these
event.-, for. although permits may be ob
tained to be abroad during the proscribed
hours, the holders of them are advised
to notify the military before venturing
out. No excuse Is accepted from those
persons found In the streets without a
permit.
