Toe transactions in Cotton during the list week hare amounted to about 6500 bales, exclusive oi W0 bales sold to arrive some time back, and prices have invariably tended downwards. Within two or thr*e days, buyer* have been in duced to come forward more freely, by a willingness on the pari of holders to meet toem at a reduction, and several sales of parcels on board, and of some inferior and ordinary quali ties have taken place at the full decline of 4 a 5 centimes per i kil. for middling and good; the lailer being scarce, holder* are more firm. Confidence in the article is very materially im paired by the disposition on your side to ship eagerly to our port, and by the stagnation lucre reigns in the demand for ma nufactured goods. The decline in Liverpool has also had an unfavorable effect here among dealers as well as importers, and unless the inquiry from the trade continues regular and active, it is very doubtful whether we shall be able to maintain our present prices. Sales this day 3500 bales. Yours, kc. Marseilles, Feb. 20, 1838. Our supplies of culonial produce in general are at present very scanty.
