MORNING HERALD. NEW YORK, FRIDAY MORNING, AUGUST 10, 1838. Notice Co Coantrr Snburllwri, Hereafter whenever any country subscription to the Herald, reaches a fortnight of its close, subscribers will receive their papers, done up In yellow wrappers. This plan ia adopted in order to give ear patrons, in the country, notice, either to renew their subscription bj a fresh remittance, or to expect it to cease at tne dose of the period for which it had been paid. Sub scribers, will, therefore, understand, after this notice, what ia meant by receiving their papers done up in yctfrw wrapping paper. By this method we furnish individual subscribers with a proper notice, without putting them to the ex pause of postage, and thus shave Amos Kendall, by way of requita for his shaving so often our subscri bes. The fashionable morals of the present day, aa sanctioned by the Honorable the Kitchen Cabinet, are to cheat as much as you can so that the law doea not reach yoa. I do not practice on this princi ple to any extent, except when I have dealings with the Kitchen ? and on such occasions it ia adopted parely in self defenoe ? if you dont shave you'll get shaved. Every day I am receivin? letters complain tag that the Herald has failed, tvhen, at the same time, I know full well that it ia regularly mailed.? Why these complaints 1 Because ranny of Amos'! sub-treasurers will be looking into the Herald, to see the lineaments of their master accurately depicted. They read, laugh, but forget to put the Herald into its wrapper again. Hereafter I beg them aa a favor? as a personal favor to me? to try to be as honest as they oaa. I know they have precious little of that article | bat a precious little is better than none. TkbHirald Shipping List : or Bennett's Ame rican Shipping List. ? We now regularly issue on Saturday evening of every week, in a single sheet, comprised in the Evening Herald *{ that day, the " Herald Shipping List," or "Bennett's American Shipping List," for the use and convenience of ?hipping and general merchants, both of this and ?f other countries. It comprises all the ship news of the week, combined in one sheet, and arranged on A plan entirely new ? a specimen of whieh we have given during the last few weeks in our Morning Herald. At present, our Weekly Herald con tains all the literary, philosophical, political, mone tary and commercial intelligence, exclusive of the ship news, which is valuable. The want of room compels us to exclude this large mass of authentic shipping intelligence. Oar purpose is to remedy this evil, by the publication, in one sheet, of all the ship news of the week, digested and arranged in such a way as to save trouble and time to the commercial reader. litis sheet is the size of the daily Herald, and will be sold at two cents per copy, or $1.90 per an for anbaenbers at a distance, payable in ad vance. In addition to all the shipping intelligence of the weak, it will oontain all the Commercial News of the week, and the news of the day on which it is pub kakad ? eaoh Saturday, up to the close of business. Not one of tha least important feat tire* of this aheet is its chsapneaa, combined with ita accuracy and com prehensiveness. It will be a specimen of the philo sophy of ship sews and ahipping intelligence. Oar means to execute this purpose are many and am ple. W* own a most exoellent News Boat Establish ment, equipped and manned in fine style. It is all our own. We have besides an arrangement with the snw Pilot Boat* of New York, from whom we pro cure all the ahtppiag intelligence they can rake and serapein the coarse of the week. The New York Mots sre ths moat gallant set of fellowa in existence sad ws always treat them as they deserve. By these means we can, and havs frequently outstripped every Mher paper in New York, in the amplitude and accu racy sf oar ship news. The concentration of these sflsrts in s single aheet, will be of manifest advantage to merchants throughout the Union, and throughout ?nropo. RAfclt *??? ?? 1%. Una* uvtrpa per far *ale by J. I cheerfully state that the lacts contained in the above note are strictly true. J. M. FORBES, Rector of St. Lukes' Cuurch, N. Y. New York, June 26th, 1838. No. 13 Kim street. New Yorr, 37th June, 1838. To the Editor or the New Yorr 9un? Sir : As a friend to the suffering poor of this large community, I take the liberty of sending you a letter which I have read in the "New York Christian Advocate and Journal" of June 32d. written by the Rev. T. Bainbridge, (a person tl Iricnd of mine,) a minuter of tine Uients, in the M. K. Church. 1 stvertd limes accompanied him in his viaitf to the house of Dr. Wil liams, 419 Broadway, and am satisfied, that although bespeaks in a very affectionate and grateful manner of that Uculut, as well as the great benefit he had witnessed in many other cases b sides ais own, he might have added much more with out any exaggeration of fact. By giving this note, together with brother Bainbrtdge's letter, a place in your valuable paper, you will mucb oblige, Yours respectfully, K. [From the Christian Advocate and Journal.] IMPORTANT TO THIS BLIND. My Bear Brother Cole*? It Is unuecesaary fur me to Inform yon that ft?r many years I have suffered much under a distres sing affection ef tiie eye, and have tried many remedied, and undergone operation* from the hands of swue ol the first oculists of the day in Europe, but without effecting a perma nent cure; and although 1 couid see to read and write by the aid of cataract glasses, still luy eyes were, ji source of much trouble and some anxiety Having heard of the many (and to me aimoH incredible) cures performed by John Williams, Esq. now resident sn this itv, but late of England, 1 determined la consult hint, and see if I could not obtain aav relief er cure; accordingly I called upon him at Providence House. Ue at ?nee told me ihe aatureof my desease, and said " he did no doubt by Oon's blessing, to be of mncb service to me, and as regards charges, all be wanted was' my gratitude, not having at any lime r ver received a cent from any Methodist traveling preacher in his life: bathe require* me to call upon him every day." This I have done for the last ten dnvs.and it is due to him to lay that I hov- already received an amount of benefit beyond my most sanguine expectations, for which 1 cannot be too grmielui ; and it Is aow a source of much regret, both to him and myself, that the nature of my ministerial duties re quires me to leave the city, for I have stroag hopes that If 1 re mained here I shouta experience a certain cure. 1 have been prompted to write thus to you that the afflicted among my brethren in the ministry, who can do so. may applv to Or Williams, at his house. I have been an eye wllaess to the number of I is patients who have been restored to sight after being denied that blessing many yean ; and in some in stances those bora blind cow see. Another important feature la his treatment is, that his remedies appear to be safe, and ah hough powerful, do not in their applleation produce much paia. The insertion of this letter In the Advocate would oblige ine, and I think be of benfit to those of my bred ren who need the doctor's assistance, and are so favorably circumstanced aa to have the opportunity of calling upon him. It is substantial cause for deep and laating regret, that from the very commencement of onr troubles any American taken in arms has been suffered to escape the gallows. That expiative instrument of justice, and finisher of the law, ought to have commenced opera tion* with the first offenders. Had they had justice dona them, in all probability there would have been an end to the busineas at once ; but, st sny rate, we are per fectly satisfied, that if the roscala captured in the schr. Ann had been executed within a week, tke affair of Point au Pelee would never have occurred, and some twenty- five of our brave aoldiers <?f the 3Sd Eegimeut would have been saved, some from death, and some from being maimed for life. Tke United States swarms with vermin, and confident we are that every good-minded American would gladly see a premium offered for their destruction at so much per head. Among the good-minded, however, we do not count V|a Buren, his Cabinet, or his prodigious host ef office holders. ? Tortnlo Patriot. 4 N*w On lea we, Aug. 1.?
