A shocking murder was com mitted at Sing Sing, on Saturday afternoon, the par ticulars of which having reached us, are as follows. The occurrence took place at the Croton Works Quarry, a short cistance from the village of Sing Sing. The deceased was an American, a citizen of Troy, named Thomas French, a highly respectable man, who has left a wife and family of children to deplore hia loss. Mr. French was by trade a blacksmith, and was employed in a small ahop near the Quarry, in sharpen ing the toola of the workmen. On Saturday about two o'clock, the overseer of the gang, Mr. Connch. discharg ed the workmen to go to their dinner, aaying that aa it was wet and raining they had better not return to their labor again in the afternoon. Mr French waa seen to leave for his lodgings in the direction of Sing Sing, and to be cloae followed by four Irishmen, named Oran Murray, Peter McKinley, Patrick Farren and John Conklin. The above named individual in the after noon called for their weeks daea, and were not after wards seen, nor was Mr. French, nntil near night, when auapicioaa were arouaed from the fact of his having re cently some aberration with the four men above named, that he had met with loul treatment at their hands. Search waa accordingly mad*, and the body of the de ceased waa discovered concealed among some low bushes, which were on the way to his h?me. It was found that the acull was badly bruised, apparently by a atme, and evident marks of violence about the throat, and brtnaea in varioua parts of the body. The Coroner held an inquest over the body, and the J cry returned a verdict of death by strangulation, and of wilful murder against the four above named iudivid uals. Search was immediately made for the accused, hut anauccessful, and yesterday morning Mr. Counch and Mr. P. Smith were dispatched for thia city, to de tect if pcaaiole the mnrderera, if perchance they ahould embark on board the boata at any of the landings. One of them, Peter Farren, waa observed on board the boat immediately after ber leaving the Tarrytown dock, and on being '?ecognired by Meaars. Smith and Counch the aid of officer Welah (who happened to be on board tho steamer,) was called in, who secured Farren and brought him before Juatice Hopaon, who on examina tion of the above facta, committed him to prison to ?wait the demanda of the authorities of Westchester county, where ke will be tried.
