would not have been a liard task to pull them out with a slight
jerk?such were my feelings and suffering at this time that I
was rendered perfectly miserable. I consulted the first physi

of was tried, but all proved of no service, and as a last resort
was recommended a change of air;, but this, like other reme

ON THE CLKE UF bTKIlTU KE.
Pi A FORMER ADVERTISEMENT ON STRICTURE
much lain* was taken to explain Its nature?the disease*
which were mistaken lor it?its consequences and its cure
also the fact that Stricture frequently exists in time* who are
not in the least aware of it. lhose, however, occupyimt too
much *|wce, tlie following rmnarks will be coufined to cettaiu
circumstances, which will Miable one to judge whether he has
this complaint or no, and its pro|wr means of cure.
Among other thiugs it was remarked, that it was by uo means
necessary that the stream of urine should be obstructed, or even
much diuiiuiahed, in a case of stricture; this, rndeed, occurs iu
bad and long establislied cases, but stricture may exist lor
mouth* and even years without producing any striking change
in this resjwet. Neither is it necessary there should be pain, or
any tiling directing the attentiou to tlie seat ol this diseare.
Pain, certainly is now and theu complained of, but it is only
wlieu inflammation happans to be superadded; and, with re
gard to oilier effects, especially of early cases, these are observ
ed to fall upon the moid and nervous system, rather than Uie
jiart itself. There are, however, three circumstances which
most peculiarly belong to stricture, and, especially wlieu they
ui?t together, should never be lost sight of, but lead to immedi
ate means of cure. Many other symptoms might be ineulioued,
but most of tliese belong to other maladies as well, or re at*I to
stricture in iu more advanced and sealed form, while tlie fol
lowing three belong to stricture in Its early Stage, and WlWii it
is so easily and Certainly removed. 'Ihe first of these relate* to
Thk Manner or URiNATiNO.-lt has beau already said the
stream ueed not be much diminished onmpeded, but what u is
be observed is tlie i>eculiar way in which it finishes, if it should
ha|i|i?ii, after the clothes are readjusted, that a drop or two
should steal away, so aa to wet a little, lias, trilling a* it may
seem, would afford a strong suspicion. Not that this urop or
two can proceed from no other cause whatever; but, cerlauil) ?
uo stricture can exist without it. Tlie next is
Th? Time a former Go?orrhiea mav have remained
Uncured.?A Gonorrhoea, though not tlie only,.la by lar tlie
most frequent cause of Stricture. It is not IU severity. ?? ""ten
a* the length of time iu gleety stage may liave remained, that m
to be considered. Neither is U possible iu every case to SUM
how iouK ttiia may coiitiuue without producing stricture, lof
one is naturally more disposed to Stricture than anutlier. If,
however. it should have couliuued from six to eight weeks, till*
length of time at least would strengthen any other suspicious
circumstances. Tlie third is
The Effect a Stricture has ufonthe Mind.?Nothing
is more certain llian that the effect of Stricture is to depress the
spirit* and to lessen mental euergy Not that this is complain
ed of in the same degree by every individual, but it is so oenn
mon, in one degree or other, that the Writer rarely sees a ease of
Stricture in which tlie patient does not observe that he is uot so
active, or capable ad' business as formerly, This also is a sess
oua effect; though little uudertood, but it is unquestionably
true. Indeed, whoever considers the natural connection of
mind and sexual organs, will easily imagiue that, as there is a
medium by which the mind so powerfully acta upon these or
gans, so, through the same medium tlie sexual organs re-act
upou tlie mind. This, however, is better explained iu " Tlie
Private Treatise" of tlie author, a little volume which is sent to
many parts of the world. As tlie cure of Stricture proceeds,
the activity of mind invariably returns. .... ...
With resiwct to tlie cure ol' Btficture-rthis, it is gratifying to
ilate, is generally accomplished in very little time, and without
pain or inconvenience. Nothing can exceed the improvement
of late year* iu tlie treatment ol this complaint. Indeed, in the
hands of pro;?r and ex|ierienced persons, the cure of Stricture
is now accomplished iu as many days as formerly it demanded
mouths. Many persons consult tlie writer wlio come ou busi
uess to this city for a abort time oiily, but return jierfcctly
cured, though it has been a source ol' trouble and anxiety for
yeare. To those who cannot leave their homes, the w riter fur
Hislies his own peculiar means of cure, together with his " 1 ri
vate Treatise," which has an interesting chapter, giving every
information ou tlie subject, and written in tlie plainest maimer.
Dr. Ralph takes this opportunity ol saying that lie may be

Parr's Life Pills are not of this |ieriod?the antiquity of nearly
three hundred years throws a halo of truth round the discovery,
which the ephemeral productions of the day can lay lio claim to.
For the truth of this, the Proprietor call the attention ol the
public to a work of the " Lite and Times of Thomas iarr,
who lived to the uuuaual and patriarchial age of 142 years, and
whose length of life, under Providence, was solely attributable
to his temperate habits, and the corrective applied to his system
by the use of the medicine now widely known through the
world as Parr's Life Pill*. The truth ol this is certified by
his last will and'testament, which may be seen to this day
in the Registry of Wills iu Doctors' Cosnmons, Loudon.
The Proprietors have felt it their duty U> the public to. state
these facts, although extensive advertising form* uo par* pi their

by the following extracts from tlie Druggists who act as retail

tuous intentions, to save Irer fatherless offspring frain becoming
degraded objects ol charity or profligate votaries of vice I Even
though competence ana plenty smile ujHin us, how often, alas !

holding the emaciated form and declining health of the compv
nion oi his bosom, ere she had scarce reached the age of thirty
?fast sinking into a premature grave?with the certain pros
pect of himself being early bereft of the tiartner of his joys and
sorrows, and his young and helpless children of those endearing
attentions and watchful solicitude, which a mother alone can
bestow, not uufrequrully at a time wlieu least able to support
the heart-rendiug affliction ! I* it desirable, then?is it moral?
for parents to increase their families, regardless of consequences
to themselves, or Uie well being of their offspring, when a sim
