The storui on Saturday, ws fear, has had a most
disastrous rflect upon the cotton crop. Gentlemen
who have reached the city from different eouaties,
represent it ?a very destructive?having blown out
a large portion of the open eotton, and blown of)' a
gifHt quantity of tmall bo Us, forms and blooms.
The destruction to the corn crops on the Savannah
river, we fesr, has been almost total on many
plantations, as the river is known to have attained
a height which has inundated thousands of acres.
And us the wind had blown down tbecorn, a large
portion of it has certainly been covered.
The river attained its greatest height, over twenty
fret, yesterday about noon, and commenced to
recede f-efore night.
[From the Columbia (9. C ) Telegraph, Aug. 20 ]
The storm of Saturday lias left much of the
swanip land inundated. In the lower part of the
district much damage is feared to com and cotton.
Singleton's Big Lake plantation is nearly Bubmerged,
us are also severul others. One gentleman,
we are informed, calculates his less at not

more definite information.

[Prom tho Charleston Mercury, August 20.]
We were visited on Saturday morning, witbja
heavy blow from the southwest, which prevailed
without intermission for twenty hours, we should
not be surprised to hear that it was the wing of a severe
gale oo the coast. It hai?, at any rate, served
to interrupt ihe mails. The steamer Men. Clinch,
which left here on Saturday morning for Savannah,
returned in the afternoon, unable to make headway
against the wind. The Wilmington boat due on
Saturday, (the Wilmington), failed to come through
by reason of an injury to her boiler, which compelled
her to put back. The boat due yesterday,
the Gov Dudley, met with a detention on account
of the violence of the weather, and did not come
in till near 11 o'clock last nigh'. The mail was
not delivered, and we were uuable to obtain any
papers from the passengers. The storm h is been
extensive i n land. They semi us word that it was
severe at Columbia, and the telegraphic communication
beyond that place, and between this and
Augnsta, has been interrupted by it. It can hardly
fail to have done considerable injury to the cro.is.
