J Tho Isidy of this paper Is not hi tho handwriting of Mr. O'Sul livan; it has been shown tome two or three tinier since this triul commenced; I never saw it before; Mr. Ilall allowed it to me first. and I raw it onco or twico since; at the time ot Kukow's exam in ition on this point. Mr. Hall turned to inc. and said, in a familiar way, "Spring, you know O'Sullivan's handwriting ?" I said, '? Certainly ( do;" ho then continued, and asked mo if I had any ob jection to going on tho stand to prove that single fact; I should think, from the question, ho must have known of my intimacy with Mr. O'SuUlvan; he then added, '? You know I know hi* hand, ami li? bus admitted it to be his;" I then replied, that I would rather ho would not call me for that pur pose; the paper was then, I think, in Mr. Hall's h uids, for he immediately afterwards handed it to mo; I looked at it cursorily, and raid to Mr ll:i!l fuhtantlally, "It looks like Mr. O'Sullivan's writing"; Mr Hail was stand ing. ami I won sitting near the railings ; 1 then looked nt tho paper more carefully, and added, '? Hut, Mr. Hall, there ere grcut points of di "similarity in the writing;" at that moment Mr. I i all withdrew the pi per from my hand somewhat hastily, and I, desirous to correct any false impression ho might have, had added, "Mr liali. it is not Ids handwriting;'' I think that is all that parsed at that time; I have known Mr, Ihdl since I was u hoy; I nevi r h id any intimacy with li'.m, but have always been on friendly terms with him. The witness was not cross-examined. Kdward ltccscy was next sworn, and examined through the Uei man interpreter, und deposed. ?
