Aug. 4, 1863, 1,743,530 Dccieace in the *Mk this y?ar $355 674 No essential alti ration has occurred ia the position of the dry goods traffic since this day week. The couatry jobbers, more especially th?se from the West and South have been the heaviest operators, though greater willing, ness to deal has been displayed by local buyers. Few orders have, no far, been received from Northern merchants, who? thanks to the matchless faoiUtlea of communication between their homos and this metropolis? are never in a hurry to reach New Tork thus early In the season. We are, nevertheless, a little surptUed to learn of their tardi ness just now, when, though goods are abundant, they are dear, and yet very ?pt to appreciate. We presume that they haw been unavoidably detained, partly by tho necessity of winding up the spring business, and partly by preparations for visiting this olty, whither, in conse quence of the attractions of the Crjstal Palace, most of them will be accompanied by their families. Their absence, however, is not likely to be prolonged, as the autumn's progress must drive tlism into us. When they do arrive they will greatly augment the activity that at present oliar*cteri?e? the trade, and contribute to the realization of the hopes generally entertained by factors, who thiok tbat as our wants have been so rapidly en larged, even the unusually weighty quantity of goods now heie and ordered for future delivery is apt to prove quite moderate, if not inadequate, and that consequent ly prices are sure to be supported, if not improved. We can testify that the fall campaign was never oommenoed under uoie favorable auspices, and should ordinary skill tad care be exercised la its direction, we shall be much disappointed if it fails to reach a successful end.
