L. Jar din, No. 210 Gold street, about one o'clock on the afternoon
of tbe Fourth. a party of No. 11 enema boys eaaa
hi paatiy wall excited with liquor. They drank several
rounds of laser, when another party belong ins to No. 6
engine (Forty acrea) came in, all pretty muoh in the same
vendition. a quarrel ensued, as there had boon a feud
existing between the companies, which tbe landlord tried
bie beet to suppress. He was knookod senseless for bin
pains. The light then became general. No. 6'a party
then went outside and assaulted the bouse with stonee,
smashing tn the windows and doore. No. 11'a
ry went out the back war, and coming Inthe
street through an alleyway, tho light
>- was renewed with such weapons as they could get hold
of. One man, named StlUwell, was stabbed In the head
with a knife, mnd several were badly beaten with sticks

A man named Jatnee MoCluskey, better known among
his companions sa "iScabby," commuted s violent assault
upon Alexander Jsmeison, or Jimmersom Home one
handed Jameson a pistol, which he tired and struck Mr
Clot key in the neck, inflicting a deep and a dangerous
wound. Jsmeison gave himself up to tho police, and
stated that he ?hoi MuCiutlcey In self defense, having neon
set upon and beaten by him and others. It appears a
leaded pistol was lying on tbe bar in tbe saloon, which
tome one took and gave to Jsmolson while contending
with McClnakey and the others. The wounded man
was conveyed to the City Hospital, where the
injury waa examined. The hail entered the left side of
the neck, a lithe to the left of the medium line, and the

injury. Ho retained hie senses during the afternoon, bat
km very weak from losoof blood. Tbe ball was embedded

a nation. Whilst we do this, and thus keep alive, from

sufferings and the oommon dangers which oar fathers en
countered in achieving oar independenoe, the Constitution
end tbe Union wilt be preserved.
I congratulate yon, with all my heart, upon tbo present
h<>[x fui prospect of onr country. I humbly trust that a
kind Providence hss dispelled the angry o>oudn which but
recently seemed to Impend over it, and that we have
nearly reached the end of those violent and exasperated
Boetioaal controversies which have threatened the Union.
When we centrist the present condition of our country
with what it would have been at this moment had Congress
adjourned without enacting any law to mitigate the
sectional strife which had been raging lor years Between

In the course of hie beautiful speech, Senator Dane
passed a noble ealogium aa oar mother ooantry; and
dwelt on the many reasons why the most oordlal friend
hip should be maintained with her; and he conoluded by

she exercised over the minds ot mea. It is ever?at all

the foresight of the gallant captain, at the evening hour,

with those various pyrotechnic displays which in us I bo so
grateful to the spirit of patriotic John Adams?of bouhre

Fatal and Strlem Caeualtlee on the Plftli.

N. J., a boy of about eleven years old, son of Mr. John
W. Snath, who was engaged with his father la raising the
flag, accidentally got In the range of the cannoi, and was
struck by the wed in the neck, which carried away U e
side of his face and rendered him insemlble, la which
condition be lay till five o'clock in tbo aiteraooo, when
he died.
A party of rowdies visited tbo woods near Baltimore,
where a Sunday school eelebratten was being held, and
shut dead a boy fifteen years of ege, the son of Uolonel
John T. V arlon. There waa grsat excitement. Tne per
petrator of the homd deed escaped, bat many arrests
were made.
At Jordao, N. Y., Peter Murphy stabbed bis son ia-law,
John siahar, six times, with a targe jack knife, twice m
the neck, twice in the body, and once each in the arm
and leg. Murphy was perfectly sober, but the other was
slightly intoxicated. Mahar is very low, and there are
bat slight hope* of his recovery. Murphy had (hod com
mitted for examination.
An Irishman, named Joseph Gibbon, residing at onefcr.m,
t.o-k the b 'JO train for Boston at that place, and after
the irsin had passed Maiden, left his seat to go to anotoer
oar. While stepping across the platform between the cats,
be ksthis hat off, add regardless of the speed of the care
linmeolately jumped off after it Mo struck a train of
gravel oars standing on the side trasx at fidgewortn, aid
was thrown back under the passenger train. Both his
feet were badly crashed, and he was otherwise Injured.
While the half past seven o'clock train from Boston, on
the faster a Railroad, waa lu Newburyport, the wife of
Chat, l/ocke, a fisherman, aged tiny two, went into the
cars With a married daughter, who was starting for I'ortumoutb,
and Btopped until the cars had started. On attempting
to leave the train aTer it was In motion, she
slipped from the platform, falling across the track, three
ears pawed over her body, nearly severing it. She was
taken op, but died almost immediately.
At Ipswich, Mass., a little girl of about ten years, daughter
of M. R. Waits, was severely if not Totally horned la
coaseouenoe of her clothes taking fire from fireworks.
A young man at Dover, N. H., performed the seemingly
easy, but really difficult pedestrian feat, of beginning at one
end of a row of one hundred potatoes, placed one yard
part, and depositing them all, one at a trip, in a tucket
placed at the otbor eui, in forty truce minutes. A solution
of the problem will show lbs j >uruey to hare been
no inconsiderable one for the time occupied in its perlbr
manco. The young man was so much oxkauaui t that it la
feared his over exertions may prove fatal.
Vr. Philip Blaney, painter, who resides on Fallon street,
h iixnvers, Mass., became enraged aiAae proceedings
of soma young men who were meddling with his pro
misna, and making the usual Fourth cf July domonstrv
I tons, rushed into the street armed with a sword cano,
and inflicted eight stabs or. the person of Mr George
Price, took his brother, Mr. Johu Price, carried him ic.o
the bouse and beat him in a shocking manner, and also
tabbed Mr. Joseph Gray.
James Shaw, aged twenty two years, was shot In the
abdomen on board the steamboat rbomas A. Morgan, at
Philadelphia, lie was coming from .'loverly, with a oom
paniou. The two had a revo.ver between thorn, and
were engaged m putting on a cap when the weapon went
off accidentally Tne wound proved uui
Thomas Drury was drowned wh>lo bathing in the Delaware,
at Philadelphia.
Benjamin Shaw, aged ton years, waa drowned while
bathing at Philadelphia.
Jamna haird. a native of Ireland, waa drowned at
