Kennedy, and that the men were needed for the Metropolitan Guard. As soon as the report of this affair was aiade to the general and regimental headquarters, the Adjutant went to the office of Mr. Superintendent Kennedy and demanded that the men should be delivered back. He was treated in a very uncourteous tnannereby the Superintendent, who Informed hltn that "ho did not care for General Hpinola or for myself ; that he had tho recruiting papers of Mse.and that was onough." With this communication comes the sworn affidavit of private Edward Rochumann, ono of tho thirty-two men thus said to be dealt with. This man, on his arrival at the Metro politan Guard encampment, on Riker's Island, threw himself into the water, according to his statement, for the purpose of escaping to Now York. He whs for a space of two hours in that condition, when he was picked up by a fisherman, and brought to New York. Thus tho case stands at present. POLD1EKS RETURNING TO TIIRIR REGIMENTS. Fort Hamilton camp, where couvalescont soldiers are s'ntloncd, now contains about one thousand men. During the past week quite a number of those who have roco\er ed and are i'ble to enter upon the arduous duties ot enm naiiining once more have boen sent off to their different regiments. FESTIVAL FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR 8ICS AND WOUNDED 80LDIERS. On Monday next a festival will take place at Jones' Wood to aid our German sick and wounded soldiers. All who sympathize with those heroes of the war, and who desire to alleviate their sufferings as much as possible, should be preseut at Jones' Wood on Monday next. SIXTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT COMMITTEE. A meeting of this committee was held at the City Hall yesterday, llayor Opdyke stated that he would not be able to procure the substance of tho report flnr the benefit of the committee until Saturday next, when they ad journed until that time. TRIAL OF THE UNION REPEATING OFN IN THE PARK. An exhibition of this improved weapon took plane In the Park at twelv? o'clock yesterday. The trial proved eminently successful, and received the universal com mendation of the spectators. The iieculiarity of this weapon is that it is capable of tiring one hundred shots per minuti . and can be made to discharge one hundred and fifty shuts if n?ce*.-ary. The gun is rifled, and tho barrel is much thicker than that of the ordinary ritle. It has a telescopic ai^ht attache:!, and the whole affair can bo easily worked. The ball used is one ounce in weight. Twenty-four cartridges being deposited in the cylinder, tho turnltii; of a crank causes them tu drop into the barrel, immediately after which a hammer instantly sirikos tho caps, when tho discharge takes place. A great sdvantage | ossessed by this arm Is that It can he lowered or olovated at pleasure, and in case of necessity can be detached from the carriage and borne away on the shoulder. Two barrel* are tarnished with each gun, s? that In case one become! overheated it can be detached, and the other put In its place. Tho cartridges usod ere made especially for this gun, and on the end or oach is a per cussion cap. The di-rburges are regulated by the turn ing of the crank, and at cach turn a discharge takes plMt. Twenty four ehots were yesterday flred In four Ken seconds. Two of these guns aro attached to the Sickles' Br gade. The government has ordered an addi tional number of them. A series of resolutions expressive of a determination to stard by the country, and by aid, b th in money and men. do their utmost, to quell the rebellion and resist foreign Intervention, were unanimously adopted.
