Major Cloppoe's command, consisting of four compa nies of Morrill's llorse aud two companies of the third] Iowa cavalry, were close on their heels. Without allowing tntm, horses or rebels any rest, they pushed onward Into BaJiaway county. Ill the meantime General SchoQeld ordered Colonel Guitar, with three companies of the Ninth battalion of (mounted) Seutc militia, to cross the river from Jefferson City and Join Malor Cloppee and Major Caldwell. The order was obeyed; but the rebel Captain Porter got wind of it through spies, and hastoiied to attack his pursuers in hopo of routing them befuro tho ieinfoi cements from Jefferson City arrived. There must be some special reason why tins poor devil is exempt ed from the usual tate of guerillas. Takiug prisoners, with arms m their, hands Is among things of a by gon<> age in Missouri. Our accounts front the scene of the action are down to Monday night. The rebels, as usual, scattered In a half dozen parties. Col.' titular, as senior officer in counnanjJ, ordered instant pur suit, dividing his command into detachments lully equal to tbe ta?k of capturing the separated rebels. VVe expect hourly intelligence of further successes in exterminating the last remnant of Porter's gang. It is fortunate that those scoundrel have been made to feel the weight of military authority. They promised to become exceedingly dangerous j but now, fortunately, are on the verge of anni hilation. As if rebel audacity had not been carried sufficiently far, a gang of fifty villains actually organized and equipped themselves as guerillas in St. Louis last week, and on Mouday morning, at an early hour, they assembled in the suburbs of tlie city,on the Manchester road, only twelve miles? from General Scbollield's headquarters, lhey were joined by twenty additional recruits from Manchosiar, and started for the Interior by cross roads to join some guerilla organization, or work independently on their own hook as bushwhackers. As soon aa the news reached headquarters, a company of cavalry was des patched in pursuit, anil orders given to post commanders at Franklin and at Potoei, Mo., to start out expeditions to eut them off. A report reached headquarters last even ing, and is published as authentic to-day, that the Potosi expedition succeeded in overhauling the St. Louis party and capturing their horses and arms, besides killing eleven of them. It Is presumed they followed the usual guerilla tactics ia such cases?that is, abandoning their horses and taking to tbe brush. This report lacks con trmation, although clearly probable. A skirmish occurred near Patten, Mo., on the 26th, la which two hundred guerillas were routed by one com pany of the Tenth battalion of Stale militia, tinder Major Chevereaux. Twenty live rebels were kilted, 'throe men were wounded on our side, and one horse killed. A despatch from Bella states that nearly fifteen hundred guerillas, well armed aud mounted, crossed the road trom Potosi to Jeffermon. within ten miles oi Steel vlile, in Crawford county.
