Dire ban been the consternation consequent on General Butler's recent order, closing the distlllerios and brew ertes in this city on the 8lh inst., and diverse the ?pecu lattons respecting the object of the General in taking so decided a step. KI on gated were the visages and bitter the anathemas of the lovers of cocktails, JuiopK, brandy smaili-e, whiskey straight and other bibulous sfmplee and compounds,at the prospect which here presented itaelf of having their grog stopped, just an it lias been done in the navy, or, at least, of having to pay aiieun, if not twenty cents, for a '? horn ? which formerly could be had for ten cents, or, ia stricter language, two blue railroad tickets, rep resenting fi\ e cents each. The grumbling and (rowling among the Jack tars in Uncle Sam's navy, on the 31st of August?the eve of the cruel deprivation pre scribed by Congreas?may be imagined by those wha have any acquaintance with tbe amphibious bipod t? Whose species they belong ; but it was no < it euinsUxnce to the protracted howl that rang all along Abe streets of the Crescent City, from barroom to bar room, and irom grogshop to grogshop, when Ilie horn Ma fact was brought homo to tho'-choke spirits"' and "thirsty spuls" frequenting these places, that tn future to "wot (he whistle'' would be a vary expensive process indeed, If at all possible.
