currency is steadily improving owing to receipts botb

at ten per cent, and exchange on the East Is steady at

It is stated that tho Secretary of the Treasury win Im
mediate! r announce bis intention to pay oQ the four per
neat temporary deposits known aa Clearing House Certi
ficates in two insia'menta, the first to be on the 26th
of September, and tbe second on the corresponding
date in October. The liquidation will be made In legal
tender notes exclusively, and will add still further to the

live millions of the certificates sre held by the New York
