TOBACCO SttGKE.
?? Hom Concha1!" Bud ntnnrm.
New Yore, May 'it, 1873.
To thk Editor of the IIkkald:?
"Ko?? Concha," whone communication appeared
to Saturday's Hkrald, may be a Judge of good
cigars, but tie is certainly not of good manners.
"A La4y," who rcpreseutH a large clans of the name
mind, complaint) of the smoking at Central Park
Gard-n. "Kosa Concha," who also represents an
other class (for the honor of our sex, I trust, a
small one), Buys witU a courtesy peculiarly disown
that il she don't like it she should Ntay away; or
else that she should go Into that desolate little
patch of sickly grass interspersed with pebbles
ironically called a garden, and listen to the music
as laitiily heard in as "arbor." Hut what would
tnere tee to hinder "Kosa <'oiicha" ami hiH friends
if they got tired or monopolizing the concert room
(the ouly place where tiie music ciiu be decently
board), of sauntering out iu tne direction of the
urfeors, pu ilium tobacco sm?ke in the laoies' faces
and poiitely iniorming them, if they don't like it,
they "shouldn't come so oltenf" "Kosa Concha"
has evidently beclouded his perceptive faculties by
too much smoke and "sees through" it 'darkly."
He seems to imngiue that the ciucf pleasure of
going tuere is in the smoking. Now, reajly, I sup
posed the chief attraction was in the music. What
right have swokets to go there and practically
close tiiese concerts to a largi share of the music
loving putilic, simply because they are so rudely
selfish and so utterly disregardCul of the lights of
others* A concert room is not the place for
smoking. There arc plenty of people In >ew York
who love music enougu for Its own sake and can
listen to good music, without the necessity of
uiakiug themselves disagreeable to tlielr neighbors.
JUVtMXH.
Cigarette to the Rtucue.
To tiie Fditob ok the Herald:?
What 1 know about smoking. Not long ago I
noticed a lady smoking a clgarctte in Central Park
(larden. By her face I could see that she enjoyed
"Hie pestilential smoke" as much as Rosa Concha
or Henry Clay. The writer of those lines would
like to know what she thinks about smoking, and
would he iflad to hear that there Is at least one of
the fair sex who lavors Music and cigars.
CIGARETTE,
One Night Each Week without Smok
ing.
New Yoiik, May 28,1S73.
To the Editor of the Herald:?
1 note in your edition af this date sev
eral articles on "Smoking at the Central Park
Garden." I claim, in the first place, that it is a
poor place to take ladies; hut, if ladles mast go,
they can find ample accommodations in the gallery
of the Curdcu. It this plan fails to suit our lady
friends it would lie better to reserve one night
each week for ladies and non-smoking gentlemen.
Yours, Ac., FLOR DEL FUMAY.
