FINANCIAL II CWmCUL The Stock Market Disturbed Lower Prices. MORE ENGLISH FAILURES. Gold Strong ut 1171-4 a 117 I S?Monty Firmer on Cull ut 3 Per Cent. A GENERALLY FEVERISH FEELING. Wall Strket, I Thursday, June 17?<J P. M. ( During tlie last twenty-four hours u change lias occurrou in t&3 stock niaritet that should not be Ignored, By the majority of operatois It wus not anticipated. indeed, a more confluent feeling had been established, and It was jelt tnat the close of the railway contest and the cessation of difficul ties between miners and their employers would be ihe signal of a general advance. Unfortunately, however, both oi these lacts?or as they are described on the streets these "bull arguments"? were discounted and early exhausted their force. Tue effect was seriously lelt to-day. But this Is not all. Cable despatches continued to record fresh lallurea In England and to report a condw tion of financial disquiet that Is well calculated to elicit extreme caution on this side of the Atlantic. Gold nas already stiffened as one of the conse quenoes. Money loaned here on call more lreely at 3 per cent. Erie, as a sort of spokesman for the London market, dropped off irom 10% to 10*, with Ire# offerings, although it Is not Impossible that this stocic may have been disadvantageous^ af fected by a seemingly well lounded statement that furraer legal proceedings will be taken at an early day in the direction of the foreclosure. Whether these local influences are well founded or not there is no question that a feverish feeling has been engendered by the ulsturoances abroad, and that the memory of the sad times which fol lowed THE FAILURE*OP OVEREND, GURNET AND CO., in 1860, is still fresh enough to artejct our market. Sympathy between important financial centres is always certain in times of trouole. and abnormal events invariably cause new complications. The lailures reported to-day are as followsJohn Anderson A Co., Young, Borthwlck A Co., Henry Adamson A Son, John Straclian A Co., and J. C. Foulie. All these houses are understood to be mure or less connected with those previously car ried down by the depression In the ir;>n trade and the market for manufactured Kuods. It U mentioned also that one of tne firms relerred to had considerable American connections and suffered from the Inability oi the latter to make'good their credit, Ii this should prove true we may reasonably look at a later day for lurther enforced liquidation and bankruptcy ?n this side. We likewise note that "Malcolm, Hudson A Co., financial agents of the Japanese government, and A. Gonzales A Co. have sus pended, and other failures are expected." Til V.
