Whether the influence be celestial or mundane, one
thing la sure, there is something wrong with the market.
Aud this was eariy exhibited in the perturbations
of Lake Shore, which, however, manifested themselves
nearly altogether one way, and that in the
direction of lower prices. Opening at 03>?, it faded
away gradually, like a person In a decline, though exhibiting

Michigan Central was the third and only remaining
r.niroud security that attracted any public attention.
Its condition was hut litUo better than Its brethren,
Inclining, its it did, from OO'd, the highest point, to

lanniy. Tho Twenty-third street party arc full
if venom as regards this stock, nnd their fearlul
prognostications as to Its future fate should make
every hair on a bull's coat "stand on end like quills

Pnclflc Mail, as a sort of amphibious and maritime

not scared by the war of the elements which raged
without, as tho railroad fancies were. Consequently it
not only held its own bravely, but even at one time
advanced to 21,'*', or * per cent abovu its opening
price. Ultimately it felt tbo depression of tho rest of

commenced.
Tbe remainder of the list was featureless, and to
commission brokers the class of business was the finish
