that It was not full enough in detail, iie added
that be beard the company intended to ruu heavy
traius and heavy cDgmes over the road, and, In his
tpiuion. Immediate action ought to be taken.
Ue suggested that, as the deeds ol property on Greenwich
street coulerrcd a direct owuersbip up to the
middle of the si reel, it would bo best to lest Iho company's
right by some property owner simply going lo
vol k and removing the obstructions ou bis own laud,
fhe company would theu have to bring action lo prove

TROCBLE IN TUB BROOKLYN BRANCH.
William Peck Smith, President of the Cemmlitee on
Koou Prayer Moetings of the Brooklyn Y. U. U A.,
las published a statement calling attention to two
iicuiorials lately presented to the directors, and tho
trsl of w hich sets lorlh that "the present corps ot
unployds are detrimental to the spiritual and financial
prosperity of tho association, and that by their treatitenl
of individuals they have materially checked and
for the present ended our usefulness." A long series
?f instances of discourtesy on the part of the super inteudent
Is alleged.
The second memorial stated that Rev. W. M. Martin
had been held in olhce chietlv as a collector for years
without special couslderation oi Christian work.
It also rclerred to the fact ol Mrs. Uyatl,
who was removed lor improper conduct some 1
lime ago, having been brought back "by leme autho j
ray. " The document lurtber complained of the luck of
suity and sympathy In the various committees, the [
Irequeut absence of responsible employes from the I
association rooms, the almost total abseuce of directors ,
troin Christian fellowship, and the diversion of the j
association Irotn its original purpose. In its greater |
proportions, to a secular institution.
This was signed by I). M. Judd, chairman of the com- !
miitee of live, chosen by tho signers of the Ursl paper.
The KaecutWe Committee report that tbey investigated
the charges and found I hem false; that of the twenty
Signers ol Iho memorial only ten were members. They
further testily to the Christian courtesy ot the employes.
ltev. Job G. IJoss, Jail chaplain, says, in reference to
the Young lien's Christian Association:?"If a young
man Is not well dressed, no matter how well behaved i
be may be, he Is treated with a cool, supercilious In- <
lolrucc that is intolerable. Ae is stared at as an intruder.
Thai is not ibe way to reclaim young men. They want
companionship. The loneliness of a great cllv drives
more young men to evil aasoctalions and drink than
anything else."
