EAST RIVER BRIDGE.
Yestorday afternoon two tolegraphlo wlrea were
stretched Irom New York to Brooklyn by way of the
East River Bridge. They wore carried across on tb<
"traveller" ropo with but Utile hindrance or delay.
Tba Oral one started at ten minutes afior two, and wai
brought over to the New York anohorago and mada
fast Inside of an hour, torno delay being occasioned by ^
tbe twisting of the wire. The second was brought
over and uiade fast more speedily, the fastening on
the New York anchorage being made at twenty
minutes to lour. These wires were supplied
by the Law Telegraph Coropauy, one ot them
lor the uae of the brtage company and the other for
tne telegraph company, which supplied the wiro communication
to tho bridge lor the privilege or getting
their own across. Tho Law Tolegrapb Company's wire
is intended to connect with the Brooklyn Court House.
The bridge wire will be worked by tho Chestor dial instrument
and will be ol great sorvice to those employed
on tho bridge in stretching the different ropes yet to
be carried across. Mr. C. W. Young, tbe foreman at
the New York ancborago, superintended the fuatculnga
at that plaoo yesterday and pronounced everything
satisfactory. Mr. Farrington slated that one ot '
the ''cradle" cables will be ready In tbe latter

both the Brooklyn and Now York aide will bo maklni
preparations for tbo reception of this rope, which u

Colonel W. II. Payne. who takes in charge the test- ,
lug ui the wiro of whicn the cables are made, has had
a machine put up on the pier at the New York tower,
where those wishing to scad in bids for the proposals
ol the company can have their different wires tasted.
HE WAS HUNGRY.
John McGee was held for trial at the Fifty-seventh

Editors or thk St. Paul Pkbss and Tkiulns:?
I saw In your paper the other day e statement of tht
trapper Ridgley about Caslar's fight on the Little Big

also know his whereabouts since the 1st of July, 1876,
I thought that a few worda from me might be of later*

has been abseut two years on a trsppiag expedition.
Now, Mr. Editor, he worked for me all through hnytngana

saw bim several times in October. He says he, with
others, was captured by the Indians In March last, and
was still a prisoner In Hitting Bull's camp at the time
or Custer's annihilation on the 25th of Juno. Now, 1
saw Ridgley and conversed with bun about the middW
