tbeir Qrat $250,000. Tbia ia one of the most needed
enterprises tbat baa ever arisen in tins city, and tbe
merchants and private individuals here should not
allow It to fall to the ground. If ibis cnterprlso does
fall no attempt will he mado again lor many years to
remedy so terrible an evil as our present hack system.
But it will not laiL It is barked by energetic ana re
sponsible men, and has on its list ol subscribers each
names as Ttflauy ? Co.. William D. Sloane, A. T.
tile*art k Co. and mauy others well known, who
would not lend an) to any but really sound enterprises.
Still, about $75,000 aru still needed belore tbo com
pany can organize, and am a little surprised tbat so
?mall an amount bus not boon subscribed before ibis.
Time passes rapidly and winter Is cioao upon us, whru
the alicet cars will be crowded ami when the hackinen
will extort monstrous fees lor wretched service, bndiy
done, l.et the people wake up ut once to this great need
and send in their subscriptions 10 Verini'yeu k Co.,
