For several weeks lids event has heeii the sensation with
the peonle ol Kranklort and vicinity, and tbeio has been
much longing for the day that was to decide the fates or
fortunes of tM many thousand anxious holders "f lucky

postponement which became necessary seemed only to in
tensify their faith anil eagerness.
The cities ol New Y'erk and Philadelphia have been espe

to took alter their lulcresta in the drawing.
The people at home looked alter their own Interests tn ibe
affair and Hooked to the city from tiro country around about
to witness the proceedings. Home of the visitors cam.- upon
the trains from a distance, while crouds of people went truui
the country in wajrons, on horsrs and on toot.
No doubt litany a poor fellow went trudging In throngh the
snowy ticlds with the glowing vision of sadden wealth bet.n o
his eyes, und UO doubt many such tin one returned home at
uight cold. hungry. tired ami comfortless. But in some t uses
the happy dream was realised, and-otite ooor tuiscruble fel
lows went home with bounding: hearts to gladden tlu-lr wives
and sweethearts with the joyful news that they had drawn a
prise.
THE CROWD IN TOWN.
AH the forenoon a mongrel crowd moved to and fro through
the streets, while a large number of the more prominent citl
seus loitered around the Capitol llotol, the klortiwether
House and other places of resort, waiting for the turning of
the wheels.
The muuager* of this enterprise about three weeks ago
placed the drawing lu the humls or a boaru of supervisors
composed of some of the most respectable citizens of Krnuk
lurl occupying positions of trust uml authority.
THE COMMITTEES WORK.
The comn>itt.-c of gentlemen selected by the supervisors
to count the untold tickets and prepare the tugs lor the
prizes v.-ere Messrs. .lames O. Crockett, County Clerk;
Charles liayden. City Clerk ; J. W. Sueud. John Lindsay
and Ed. Drain.
Those gentlemen finished the work assigned them at noon
Wednesday, ami at 3 o'clock P. M. the drawing commenced
at .Major Hall, in the preaenco of several hundred persona,
who gathered in the hall an hour before the lime.
The todlouniiess of waiting was relieved, much to the
pleasure of the crowd, by Timmon't brass bund, whicu dis
coursed lively airs until the drawing commenced.
At 3 o'clock the niouagtfrs ami assistants, accompanied
by a number of distinguished gentlemen, went upur. the
stage mill deposited the tags with the numbers aud the

SOld' THE SPEECH OK THE MANAGER.
These nrelimlnaries being accomplished, Mr. S. Milton
Hitt. acting for aud on behalf of Hon. Thomas 1*. Porter,
general manager, came forward and addressed the audience
in the following explanatory remarks: ?
Boing business manager of the Kentucky Cash Distribu
tion Company, it becomes my duty to uxplain unto you the
modus operandi ol the proceedings of this drawing.
First. 1 will state that it is lmtMiSHllile to have e full
drnwing, owing to the fact that only 21,300 tickets have
been sold, the principal cause of which H owing to the com
plication of political affairs.
Huviug sold only 111 per cent of the tickets the capital
prize will he $21,000, instead ol $11X1.0)0, us contemplated.
All the other prizes will bo reduced in the saiue proportion.
Tho number of gilts not being reduced the chances of the
ticket holders to draw prizes ure considerably increase.I
We are now ready to bogln the drawing ol the gifts which
ive promised to distribute to tho ticket holders on last
Thursday, November 3(J, but were delayed trout so doing
till now or. account of the oommitteo who had the counting
ut the tags not boing able to gut through their work in
time, lu the progress of this distribution you will see
everything that is done, from the drawiug of the first gift
to the last.
The only things that were not done in your sight were the
couutlng ot the tags and the sealing ol the gifts.
It whs not possible to do that part of the work in your
presence. 1* has been tho work of five men several days
and nights to arrange these tags for the drawing. Of course
it would have been impossible to have held an uudiencu to
gether tor the length ol time necessary to do the work in
their presence. As you did not see those tags counted aud
the gifts sealed up, 1 will tell vou how it was done.
The larne wheel to my right contains one teg, with a cor
responding number printed upon it lor every ticket sold.
Of course you all know what these things we call tags are;
they are like the one I hold in uiy hand now, and all pre
cisely alike, oxcept us to the numbers upon them.
These numbers are all different, there being no two tags
with the same number on tiiera.
Every ticket and purt of ticket that has been sold has a
tag In that wheel, witli ibo precise number upon It that the
ticket or part of ticket itaolt bears.
In the small wheel to my left there are 1.156 of these
cylindrical lubes or boxes, like the one I now hold in my
hand, eacli one of which contains a slip of puner, on which
is printed one of tho gifts to be drawn. The committee who
prepared these boxes is the same tnst counted the tags,
anil are wholly disinterested gentlemen of unimpeachable
honor and integrity, appointed to do tbia work by tho super
visors.
You saw these gentlemen bring the tags and boxos into
tho ball and place them in the wheel. They are here lu
person anil in their presence, and on their behalf! state to
you that there is in the large wheel a tag to represent every
ticket and part of a ticket sola, and in the small wheel
1,156 cylindrical tubes or boxes, containing slips of paper
with numbers printed on them corresponding to gilts to bo
awarded. Ho you see but nothing but tho utmost lairues*
can exist throughout this drawing.
The following is the list of gifts

111 conclusion, 1 will state that the second grand drawing
of tlic Kentucky Cash Distribution Company will take
place on tbe Jl*t of March next, wliliout fall, which we feci
coiilliient will lis a itrund success alter tho people are as
sured ol the fairness of this, the first one.
Alter tho close of Mr. Hut s remarks he stated. In ndili
tiou, that it had been at tlrat intended to obtain two blind
bora Irorn the Asylum to draw tho numbers mid prises from
the two wheels, but this being lound imprac ticable, it was
left to two of the supervisors In select two boys to be blind
folded fur the purpose, to be rolieved by two olbers il found
necessary.
.Mr II. F. Haggard and Colonel Thomas N. Lindsay were
appointed lo call out tho numbers drawn nl tbe larire
wheel, and Judge II. A. 'I honipt in to call tho prisea at the
small wheel, tuibse'iueutly. alter the drawing had pro

THE FIRST I'RIZE.
Everything being now in readiness Mr. Illtt announced
that the drawing would proceed. Tho wheels turned
heavily and the paper parcels rattled with umluoas sound,
made mysterious by the stillness ot tlie spectators. Then
thu first blind boy put Ills band into the wheel and drew
lor' h one of the small paper curds, w hich he handed to Mr.
Hngcard. That gentleman looked at the fl.uresfor a mo
ment and cried out in a loud, clear voice. 34,1NU. Koine one
in the audience cried out lor a lair count, and then there
was silence airain until Mr. Thompson, with a sharp, new

lie.d up the paper strip nelore tho audience, and In a voice
that w ould lend one to suspect it to be tlio capital prize,
cried out. "Twenty-one dollars."

Then the drawing went smootlily along with small prizes
ranging Iroin #2I to ifliHt. elicniug orcaaiounl cheers ami
liumurous remarks from the crowd, until nearly 2i O prises
were drawn. Then ho. 41 .CM was calle by Mr, Haggard,
and Judge Thompson startled the audience with the cry of
'?Five tboiisanu two buiidrea and fllty dollars." Tlieti fol

one in the audience ikdd tbe ticket.
l'KOO. K.-s UF THE DRAWING.
Then followed a Ion* run on $J1, 94'J and 9109

spectators as they bent, wttii !o >ks ol eider in

ducked down to tlie tlguro in the books and strips of the
same spread out before them. M hen small numbers pre

loud, startliuic voice, and thou a loud laugh spread through
out the audience. Large Humbert Invariably brought loud
applause, and now anil then tho cry uf "Krno" was heard,
but no am present wm known to bav o orawu a pili?? ol aaj
considerable value.
At il :lf> the managers took recess for supper and resumed
thu drawing ml T:.K).
A large number of sinull prises, ranging from 921 to$J10,

monotonous, when ticket No 42..7H9 drew 94,VtJH.
At "t o.lodge Altrtn Duval I, late chief Justice of Ken

Hy llila time the hall was nearly filled with people from

Judge riinnipsoii cried out in a loud voice. "Twenty-one
