Thv terrible tragedy at ?a?t Williamsburg of Sun day night attracts greater attention as the mystery surrounding the affair seems to deepen. The driver, William Schmidt, who was the last man in the barroom ?f John Guusor, the murdered man, and %it>o was arrested on Mouduy evening, was taken from tbe Fiftb procinct station house to the scene ol tbe murder by Sergeant Fielding yesterday morning about hall-past eleven o'clock, George Griess. the other prisoner, having been released. Alter a few minutes' prlvats conversa tion with Coroner Currol he was taken to tbe scene of the tragedy und conlronted with the corpse ol tbe docoasod. It was lying In a largo Ico box in the north west corner ol the barroom, and sitting and stand ing around the room were thirty or lortv or tbe relatives and friends ol the deceased, eagerly watching the scone, richmldl fearlessly and without biaucblng looked ut the corpse, saying, us ho did so, "1 am sorry tor him, but 1 don't know any thing abool the murder." Ho tnen lingered for a moment or two gazing on tbe corpse, and, turn ing away, engaged In conversation with a few friends until the Coroner ordered bim removed until ibo inquest In the evening. Adam Martin, the omploye of Gunser, who was examined on Monday, and Maria Kbrhardt, his betrothed, who resides close by, were closely interrogated yesterday respecting tbe domestic relations of the Gunsers, and after tome talk.und an admission made by Mrs. Gun ser's sister, acknowledged there was some difficulty be tween deceased und bis wlfo arising from her too great intimacy with William Schmidt. Mrs. Michael, (be wlfo of the barber, with whom tbo Guusers have had frequent quarrels end two or three lawsuits, who re side* in the next house, suys that Mrs. Gunsor fre quently upbraided her husband on his lameness?bo had one short leg?and on one occasion, after culling bim a ??crooked uog," ho seized her by itio hair and dragged her around tbe room, kicking her. Mrs. Gunser guvo birth to u child on the od inst., and Saturday last was tbo first time she left her room tad was very weak all day suuday, and hor condition, In view of the injuries rccoived at the bunds of tbe assassin, renders her condition very critical, though lir. Charles J. StsUI, hor medical att-Udaut, thinks she will ultimately recover. Tho Coroner and District Attorney Downing impressed upon him tbo necessity of a more searching examination into what she kuew ol the murder, and, despite his appeal to postpone It tor a day or two until she was a little strouger, he was comoclled to allow it 10 take Mace, and under the pre.-surc of Mr. Downing divulged tbut winch will undoubtedly lead to the arrest of tbo guilty uiuu. The continuation of tnu inquest followed her staii meat, and alter the evidence was tukon Will lam Schmidt was released on his own recognizuncc to appear and testily when called upou. 1 lie woman, who saw tbe mun by tbo light of a kero sene lamp, ihoujb partially dazed by the first blow she received in her lorebeud und by the blued bowing down her luce, fully recognized the assassin, who, it is buped, will soeu be in custody. For politic reasons thai portion ol her statement Is kept secret lor the present. UJIS. OL'MSJSk's STATS KENT. Wo notice certaiu little Inattentions on tbe part ot the uctors that would hardly be tolerated at tbe Plitb Avenue Theatre, and wo imagtno tbe patrons of the ttesnd Opora are entitled to quite as much consideration as those of :bo Fifth Avenue. For instance, at tho performances on Monday night tho actors were not ready to "come on" at the proper moment throe or lour times, making a very annoying buch in the performance. Tins was notably the caso in tbe last scene, whore Coghlan should havo rushed to the rescue of John lirough im; Kcrnor could havo a lain His Ma|esty three or losr times before Treacle appeared sword in hand, to reanuc the poor Prussian King, with bis Hlberuiun brogue, Irom the onslaught of his traitorous captain.
